North Texas 2017 Shoot Dec 9th.

2017 WINTER NORTH TEXAS FAL GET-TOGETHER:
Saturday, December 9th, 2017

The location will be the same as before, about 20 miles south of Dallas. This is an all-day event so you can stay as long as you like. All board members are welcome to come and you can bring a few friends along. This is a fun shoot, not a competition. It’s really just a get-together with a lot of gunfire.

All you guys that have been to my shoots know how things work, but for anyone that hasn’t been and wants’ to come here is what you need to know. You are responsible for you own food, drinks (no alcohol drinks while shooting is going on), guns and ammo. The majority of the guys will let you shoot their guns if you have the ammo. Tannerite and Title II guns are permitted if you have them. Safety is everyone’s responsibility since there is not a designated range officer.

The only way to get in will be at designated times. I will be at the gate at 8am, 10:30am, and 1pm. If you need to leave you can go out at those times. Also later in the day if you need to leave you can follow behind a member that is leaving. I’ll also go up and let multiple people out.

Since the shoot is held on private property, you will have to PM me for directions. This is a private shoot and I don’t broadcast the location to the general public.

NOW I NEED YOUR ATTENTION FOR THIS IMPORTANT MESSAGE: As most of you know we had a game warden that that threatened to issue tickets to anyone he caught shooting into or across the river. Now that is the law so that’s that but for the past 50 years it has been done and there was never any problems with LEOs (There have been ATF, FBI, SO and many PDs down there doing it during those years. Even had FN rent the range for a demonstration to LEO). It was more of a personal problem then a question of the law from what I can gather. So to get to the point at this time we are not supposed to shoot into the river. We can shoot down the river to the bend where there will be some targets. We can do this because we are not shooting into or across the river. Additionally the range has been improved and we will have more metal swinging targets out to the 500 yard range. So that will help.

The shooting is great but it's the chance to hang out with a bunch of other FAL nuts and shoot the BS that's the best part of this get together

True and for that I might come. My problem is this. I belong to the Arlington Sportsman Club and I can shoot at paper targets all day long, shoot shotguns and have a grand time! I am at the club several times a month as a Range Officer so I get all of the target shooting I can stand. Unfortunatly, no FA firearms are allow at our club. No different than shooting at the gong and stuff at the river's bend. I always enjoyed shoot things that prople threw in the river. I don't know what happend or who pissed off the Game Warden. I have been unable to attend the shoots for a few years.

James, thanks for putting this together. I know it is also a lot of work for you. It is sad that one person ruined it for us.

Yeah it sucks that there can be no shooting into the river but that's the way it is. Since my first shoot 12-14 years ago it's really been for like mined (FAL) people getting together to have a good time. So we'll do it again and hope everything turns out OK.

I understand and I know it is not your fault. We are still friends and I hope it will stay that way. I guess working at a range has spoiled me. I can shoot paper and steel all I want to, so the river offered something completely different. I am just disappointed that someone acted stupid and screwed it up for the rest of us.

I'm jealous. 90% of my arsenal is still in storage down in East Texas because I couldn't fathom dragging it and my safe up three flights of stairs - not to mention scaring the living hell out of my urban/foreign apartment neighbors. I'll just have to make do with what I've got for now.

As far as hotels go stay at least 15 miles away from the shoot location. All the hotels close by are of the low rent design. I'll PM you some more info.

At Stimpy's GA shoot near Atlanta, we "out-of-towners" all stay at what is admittedly a fairly dumpy older hotel, but it is a place to lay down & to shower, and best of all, only about a 150 yard walk from the hotel to a Ruby Tuesday with some fine steaks and some cold beers in the evening. That type of arrangement works pretty dang good for the SEC filers

Usually the guys coming from the South stay in the Ennis area which is South of the road going to the range in Wilmer. It is sort of out of the way for those coming from the North like the airport at DFW. There is a Holiday Inn Express on I45 there, that is pretty nice.

Once, we stayed in Seagoville at a Best Western (To the East of the range)....just say its not a recommended location....while its close to the range its also close to a state prison unit and most occupants are visiting inmates. Not all are sane They wonder the halls calling out for those they lost.

Once we stayed on I45 just to the North of Wilmer, it gave you the feeling you were staying in a prison, with thin pink sheets and threadbare "prison" blankets. Makes you shudder thinking about it!! I am still working out logistics, and if it happens I should be at the Holiday Inn Express. As its a 5 hour drive for me, I usually get a room for Saturday night.

I'm thinking about the Holiday inn express in Waxahachie. There are restaurant close by and closer than Ennis. Desoto is closer to Wilmer but the rooms are about $35 higher per night

I saw that. I like Hamptons. But just a little spendy. I burned off all my points during the summer dealing with going to Kentucky getting rid of the rental

For the unwashed.......Waxahachie is 22 miles from Wilmer while Ennis is 19 miles from Wilmer. Ck google maps!

I answered all PM's.

I'll be bringing steel targets, target stands for paper targets and targets, mostly for the pistol area, clay pigeons for various things. Also plan on bringing some balloons which will be a challenge if there is any wind.

I'll also bring my grill so everyone is welcome to use it if needed. I don't think anyone has ever gone hungry even if they didn't bring any food as there always seems to be plenty.

So far it looks like the weather is going to be good.

Unless someone throws out a better option, I'll plan to be there at 6 PM on Friday and hope to see some of you other deplorables there

No rain scheduled here for this weekend so don't be bringing no stinking rain with you. Rain is good but just not on this Saturday.

My shoots have been lucky over the last 15 years or so as I only remember it raining one time and that wasn't even on Saturday. It rained several days in a row and then quit Saturday morning. It was kind of messy but every had a good time. We have more rock on the ground now so that helps.
