CFE 223 by Hodgdon. Anyone like it?

My local Academy sporting goods store has it in stock, and it's not at a bad price. $26 a pound. Was thinking about working up a load using it in my .308 stuff.

I can hardly find Varget any more, it's so popular. I bought two pounds of Reloader 15 and it was $70. I've had great success with RL-15 but the price at the store that has it is a no-go.

Thanks.

I have used it only for .223 / 5.56 reloads. Works as well as other powders, my favorite though is Ramshot TAC. CFE produces low flash signature.

If it erases copper fouling, I cannot tell.

Check for XBR 8208 and the TAC if you aren't dead set on the CFE.

I have used TAC in both .223 and .308, in .308 with bullets up to 168gr.

TAC is really great for reloading .308 with M80 type bullets of 142 - 147gr. and meters nicely.

Big fan of TAC myself. Even get pull down powder pretty cheap.

Tac is the best. I tried cfe and didn't like it. I don't remember why. I'm sure that's not much help.

For use in .223/5.56 I like CFE223. I have been able to work up good loads with it using 53 and 75 grain bullets. Its anti-copper fouling properties only help in a non-chrome lined barrel. It is a slow powder that produces good velocity at mild pressure levels. Being a ball powder, it meters smoothly and works well in a progressive press. Of the three powders I use in .223/5.56, it is the least expensive.

IMR 8208 is the accuracy champ in my .223's, works well with 150ish grain bullets in .308, and with 53 VMAX in my 22-250.

AR-COMP is another good powder for .223 and the 150 class .308 bullets.
