Where did you guys find those scope mount setups?

What kind of scope do you have in them?

Finally decided I just can't justify the price of a NDM-86 to shoot all my 54r. I came here to find out about Nagant Sniper replicas and now I want a Finn setup after the pics.

Anybody care to edjumacated me about the ins out and prices of these rifles scoped?

Thank you

Time for a bump so here's another FINN. Its a 1928 Tika M27 built on a 1915 Russian Tula receiver. M27s were a limited production rifle, prior to 1934. As this M27 carries a type 2 M27 stock, it has been through a rebuild. Russian parts were used for initial production and rebuild purposes. Barrel has been counterbored but still retains its shine.

That's a beaut DYNOMIKE.
And it passed through Century's tender clutches just 30 miles north of me.
Too bad I wasn't in to Mosins in general, and Finns in particular, until more recent times.

Many years ago Century had a showroom. You could actually BROWSE !
You could not buy directly from them, but there were a couple local dealers who would receive the guns and take care of the 4473s, etc. quite reasonably.
The larger dealers and distributors finally put a stop to that.
My No. 4 Mk II Enfield was one of a consecutive numbered pair a friend picked up that way.

Thanks bykerhd~
Man I wish I would have been close by Place that had a Showroom.. Years ago when Ilived in OHIO we did have some Good Gunshops I remember going to but there have been very few GOOD shops/showrooms here in S/Fl that I have found and even fewer today... In fact there really isn't a GOOD Shop close enough that you could drive there and back on a Day off or Sat looking for some fun toyz... If you were 30 Miles away I bet you hit that place often for I know I would have..

The FINNS have certainly got me smitten that's for sure, but hell others have as well like the ENFIELDS for example.. Boy how cool would that be to have found consecutive Ser#'s to share between friends..

I like this M27, I looked for one for awhile and seemed to miss a couple nice rifles when I didn't have the extra funds or could not find one when I did..

Things worked out well with the newest FINN and she is a nice Old Girl for sure..
I was gonna wait but I think I will bump the sight a Bit in the morning and take her to the range again tomorrow.. Will take a few kinds of ammo again & see if I can get her on this time..
Range report when I get home...

Well my Post Range report is pretty good, well maybe mixed...
The Gun functions perfectly with loading, extraction and the fired cases look great.. Same as the other day when I took her out for the first time...

Rifle shot a 25 round 3" Group at 50 yards and I'm O.K W/that as it was all Heavy Ball.. I wonder "IF" It may like CZECH Light Ball better? I have several types of X 54 Foder so I will play some more and may also try some handloads with this and other FINNS..

My ONLY complaint is she shoots high (like 5" high) and a Touch Left.. Drifted the blade so I "think" I took care of the left as blade was centered so I had plenty of Windage on the FT Sight.. Think I will leave the sights as they are as I think I can live with the elevation things as long as she centers up which I think she should do just fine...

You might want to slug that barrel DYNOMIKE.
Different Finns had different bore diameters I read somewhere.
You may have to do some playing around to find what it likes.

Never have slugged any of my Barrels, including the FINNS.. I might try that but for now I'll see what happens with some other ammo types, I have quite a bit of x 54R to choose from.. I think the Barrel/Bore is basically New and although it's not a scientific measurement the Brush and Patches seem snug when I clean it...
She will see the range more so I can experiment some, I also cleaned a Bunch of 7.62 X 54R brass yesterday so I can get on that too.. Want to Handload for the PSL/ROMAK and will try some in a few FINNS as well..
I have noticed that these rifles are like most others and it takes some time to see what they like.. A couple of my Guns really like the CZECH Light Ball and this Old Girl may as well?

I have yet to discover a single load that will shoot well in all my Mosins.
Some even seem to have a preference for ONE particular load.
That is usually the load, old Wolf steel commercial, etc., that I can no longer find.

YES, I agree 100%...
It's weird/strange yet True... Funny but the M44's "seem" to like the H/Ball if I had but one to choose that would prolly get the Nod..
However the OTHER Mosins simply refuse to comply with that Notion..
Some like the H/B, some Like the L/B, some one or the other of another flavor..
Guess it's a GOOD think I bought a MESS of it huh...

That's a fine looking Finn Mike! It sure looks a lot like my '70 no-maker. My stock was stained but left pretty dry, yours looks to be the same. Out of all my mil-surps, I think the M-39 is my favorite. There's just something about that gun. Long yes, but oh so graceful! Keep 'em coming Mike.
Gary

btw, those are some nice pics too!

Wow, this thread makes me want to go shoot mine!
I haven't shot it in a long time!

I got 2 of them way back when they first came in (1999/2000) I think I paid an astonishing $89 for mine!

Great shooter even out to 500 yds!

Roses Department Store used to sell Finn Mosins for $29-$49 on a regular basis from 1995 until around 1999.

Here's a new M27

Mine too.

Up until about 3-4 years ago, most Finn Mosins could be found here in the Carolinas at $150 or less....usually considerably less.

When Gunboards started touting the Finn rifles, prices started to go up here, but they still aren't as high as most parts of the country.

In the past couple years I've still been able to find several 28's, 28/30's, and 27's for less than $200, even as prices are averaging over $300 round the country.

Heck, back in the early 2000's, I bought my first M-39 for $89. The first 28 for $100. The first 28/30 for $125. People on Gunboards hated us Carolinians, but as we told them, it was because Roses sold the Century and Marathon imported Mosins so cheap.

Need just a couple More 39's too...

Maybe I'll get lucky next time we head up the N.C. for a few days..

They still live in the wild here, Mike, but they're wiley....you need to sneak up on them with your Cash in hand....

Okay, if I can get up there this year I'll get ahold of you and see where they may be gathering and find out what kinda bait to use?

Will bring cash of course since that always seems to be good bait once the prize specimen is found..

Dang it Mike! Look at what you made me do!

I don't have a range report yet, I'm waiting on my membership card from the club. Oh yeah, it's a 1941 VKT barrel with a Russian 1896 receiver. Execellent war time stock. I just need to do a little cosmo scrub and I'll be ready to shoot some heavy ball next week.

COOL VKT, Looks I have hooked another one...

Congrats on a GREAT Rifle and thanks for sharring the PICS, you will really enjoy it..
With that crappy weather I understand the wait for range day but look forward to hearing how she shoots...
The wood looks really nice and the antique receiver is always a neat find..
Have fun cleaning her up, I always enjoy that part..

For DYNOMIKE;

T to B

1942 Sako, war-time, unmarked receiver, VKT bolt head, matched bolt, striped wood. Barrel is frosted with some minor pitting.

1941 VKT, war-time, 1917 Tula Receiver, "D" barrel. Matched bolt and mag., heel splice. This one is the bomb. Hits well out to 500 yds with open sights and heavy ball. Picked this up in a FTF, mirror smooth bore, a real gem, and my personal favorite.

1944 VKT, post-war, 1897 Izhevsk receiver, plum colored barrel, mirror bore, probably unissued, matched bolt, has some interesting numbers under barrel shank, picts later, S&K scope mount (NO TAP and DRILL), Nikon Encore 2.5-8x28 scope.

Not only do these guns have a fascinating history, but you get some interesting markings. Looks like a "herd" of inspectors got on my 1944 VKT. I count about 40 individual proofs/marks on the receiver with 8 under the trigger spring. I think those are all Russian proofs/ marks except for the matched receiver and barrel #"2056". Those probably are Finnish assembly numbers.

BTW, the receiver top still retains the Imperial Russian Eagle. Sorry no pict. as I didn't want to remove the scope.

Better picture of the 1942 Sako.

Tuco's site is the place to talk about MN and Finns. (Of course, here is just as good.)

Before I got into the FAL, I was into the MN. I end up with some M91, M91/30, M38, M44, M59, M24, M27, M28, M28/30 and M39. Now, I just want a pre-ban Type 1 or Type 3 receiver to build my special parts kit.

The Mosin-Nagant rifles are the frugal gun buyer's delight. You pay a little money, but get a lot of gun in return. I guess the kits FALs were also the frugal gun buyer's delight. That's why I like them both.

First, these were Russian weapons, then the history shows that these became Soviet weapons. The Soviets get their butts kicked by the Finns in the Winter War of 1939. Then, the Finns pick up the Soviet's Nagants from the battlefield, run them through the Finnish arsenals and reissue. Outstanding!
