The L2A1 Automatic Rifle - Lightgow

Hello,

I would like to introduce my Automatic Rifle L2A1 made by Lightgow in 1964, As per the book of Ian Skennerton et David Balmer “S.L.R. AUSTRALIAN F.N. F.A.L.”, they list the rifle L2A1 production serials and which country they are supply to. I found that my L2A1 was purchased by Malaya. It is fitted with a short butt, better suited to the smaller Asians. My L2A1 is not fitted with the Canadian 1,000 yd leaf backsight attached to the dustcover, but supplied with the standard L1A1 backsight on the lower receiver; however done for mostly export orders. This weapon transited through UK because we can found British proof marks on the barrel before to arrive in Canada.

Lightgow produced 9,557 L2A1 between 1962 and 1982. Features of the L2A1 counterpart are the heavy barrel, folding bipod with wooden inserts to serve as a fore-end when in the folded position, 30-round magazine, larger gas block with lugs underneath for he bipod assembly, different carrying handle to allow for the changed point of balance, and selector switch may be moved to the “A” or automatic fire position (for my case the L1A1 semi-automatic selector is installed because I am not allowed to possess full automatic weapon). I bought my L2A1 in 2012 for 2,133CAD$ (1595US$) from a gun dealer in Ontario.

Physical Data:

Weight with filled 30-round magazine: 15 lbs et 4 oz (7.7 kg)

Overall length: 45" (114,3 cm)

Magazine capacity: 30 rounds

Action operation : Gas piston

Barrel length 21” (53,3 cm) without flash hider

Muzzle velocity 2750 fps (853 m/s)

Ammunition type 7.62 mm NATO Standard

Number of grooves 6

Pitch 1 turn in 12” (30,5 cm)

Direction of twist Right-hand

Ancillary Equipment: Sling Rifle, L1A2 Bayonet, Cleaning Kit

The next time I hear "THE RANGE IS NOW HOT", it just wont be the same.

Max tried another question. "What sort of people live about here?"
"In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Max.
"You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here."

My understanding of Canadian gun laws is that all you can do with it is look at it. You cannot take it out and shoot it.

Yes, this is very |!\±@£±¢¤"/*%)*?$)*/& current situation in Canada . I hope one day, we will allow to use it again at a shooting range but we need a miracle to this happen

Very nice! In Canada is that a "Prohibited" or "Restricted" rifle (if those are the right terms)?

Doesn't take long to go through 5 rounds in an L2/C2.

The L2A1 is a prohibited weapon Converted Automatic 12(3). All magazines are limited to 5 rounds but we cannot bring to the range to have fun.

Damn.... I didn't realize it was that bad now. Sorry man.

I left Canada when I got out of the Cdn Forces in FRP 1995 (CELE) and moved to the USA and am now a citizen. I have never regretted it once. I have an L1A1 and an L2A1 with all the 20 and 30 round mags I could ever care to own.

Need my legal name, address, etc for your will? Will put my Aussie L2 along with L1a1 and Brit L1 in mine for you and whoever goes first becomes caretaker of all. Even kick in a nice G1.
