British L1A1 rifle

Hello,

I just got this British L1A1 rifle in my collection. It was made in 1962 at the Royal Enfield Lock (Enfield). The serial number start with "EU" indicated that it was made at Enfield. Most of the parts were made at Enfield and they are identified by a combined "ED" follows by 2 digits indicating the production year. Also, some parts were made by Birmingham Small Arms (BSA) and they identified with a "B" follows by 2 digits indicating the production year. Lot the parts have the Broad Arrow mark and the last 7 NATO stock number.

The British L1A1 started the production in 1957 at Enfield and BSA. In 1968, the British Army started to use plastic furniture called the "Maranyl" and carry handle was replaced a black plastic material.

Yep, too bad, it will be a good deal to exchange one for one a BSA for an Enfield bolt.

A great looking specimen AF 1 and thanks for the photos.
Years ago late 1980's - early 1990's I would road trip the dealers in your area especially the garage dealers to scrounge metric and inch parts. Some would allow me to handle the many SLR's and metrics in their racks which was a personal joy.

This is about as close as I plan to come in owning a British SLR.

Very nice, the commonwealth riFAL's are my absolute favorites. I need a few more.

This is the newest one, mostly Brit parts on an Imbel receiver that takes inch mags. Gonna send it off to GP to have the Brit lightning cuts added.

The FAL is not a "platform".
It is a lady-lookin' foreign made collection of sexy Belgian curves that intimidates the shit out of today's Pajama-boy males.

Very nice. The D 62 mag well marking is a different format than the D 59 - which was two rows, D/E 1959. It's the first post 1960 I've seen with it on a single line, the other being an F60.

Argh that didn’t cross me mind. There is that Peace Bridge thing and on the far side one can find SUITs.

So sad. I remember buying parts and accessories in Kingston and Toronto and racks of C1 and L1 in shops in Calgary.

Oh well at least yours is Brit. I have to be satisfied with the condolence NZ L1.

I'm not sure when Enfield made that change, but I think it was used to the end of production. I have pics of a 1961-62 Enfield and a 1966 Enfield marked in the same fashion.

Please send me the pics. Chief was wanting a '66 and I did it in two lines as

..D.
1966

Which was the D 58/59 pattern.

Instead of

D 66

like the

F 60 pattern

I had no pattern to copy. Although I have probably 50 L side markings, all start behind the mag well.

It is on the prohibited list means I have my L1A1 as a piece of collection but I cannot go with it at the range.
