Newbie with .450 Bushmaster bullets.

Whole new ballgame for me. Picked up a Bula Defense Systems M14 type rifle at Camp Perry in .450 Bushmaster.

Now I have Hornady Dies

Strarlite Brass

Plenty of primers

Good selection of suggested powders and last but not least a couple of different bullets to try in addition to my cast left over from pistol days.

Barnes 275 gr TSX FB
Hornady 250 gr FTX

I feel like the new kid on the block wondering what to tackle next.
Whatta Hobby.

Same as my calendar too. LOL.

I'm curious how the Hornady bullets shoot for you.

Test target at 100 when the rifle was tested with factory ammo was under an inch.

That's good to hear. Some of the levergun guys with .45-70's give them bad reviews, but I've always had good luck with Hornady bullets.

I am just now emptying factory 458 SOCOM rounds for once fired brass to start reloading for the fat girl AR.

If I decide I like this cartridge, I might just get an AR upper too. Never know.

You sure like your M1a's and heavy rifles. Bet recoil is much softer with 450 Bushmaster or 458 SOCOM type cartridges in a man size rifle but since have a tendency to spend time carrying some rifles more than shooting them a lighter weight weapon lobbing the same boolits seems the way to go as back gets worse with age. If shooting off a bench more than carrying around in event of meeting zombies and roadside villains would probably prefer the heavier version.

As an aside, liking my M1a Loaded in 6.5 Creedmore a lot. Plotting on another but can't decide if want next one primarily set up for shooting off bench or carrying in the field as a combat style rifle. Good on you going against the grain on the 450 Bushy.

Never have shot much of a bench. 95% of my shooting these days in prone supported as in photo. This rifle is 6.5 Creedmoor M14 type.
Hunting days are over too so lugging a rifle 100' out the door isn't a problem.
I am hoping to try out the .450 Bushmaster in the next couple of days. FED EX is delivering a case of Hornady ammo today and I have a pile of components and powder on the loading bench to work with.

I am still turning 22 Nosler and 458 SOCOM new ammo into once fired cases. Only 22 Nosler have loaded was a 500 case run of M855a1 projectiles in new cases as not something that can be purchased and built one of my 22 Nosler's up in Mk 12 Mod 1 trim for a fighting style rifle rather than varmint/paper punching version. Figure the extra 300 fps could be advantageous in circumstances where having to punch holes in hard shell zombies out past the fence line.

HiThe M855a1 projectiles punch Level 3 armor and 3+ fairly excellently at my 25 ft test line so with them loaded in a 22 Nosler case should be doing at 100 yards as do in 5.56 at 25 feet. Not shot a Level 4 plate with M855a1 yet but scored eight in one deal recently so plan on shooting a couple just to see what rounds punch it at 25 ft & shoot another at 100 yards as need to see if my 6.5 Creedmore AP homebrew does as hope it does.
