Coward of Broward cop now gets $8K-a-month pension

Disgraced Florida massacre cop now gets $8K-a-month pension

Quote:
Peterson, 55, was widely criticized for his actions, and Broward Sheriff Scott Israel opened an internal investigation. The deputy resigned and retired on Feb. 23 “rather than face possible termination.”

Peterson, the Sun-Sentinel reported, has received a monthly state pension of $8,702.35 since April. He was paid $101,879.03 last year, according to the news outlet, which cited sheriff’s office records.

Pretty much how government service works when you do as your told. 8K a month is just about what dems would pay if you stand back and watch as 17 kids are murdered. They turned the killings into real campaign funds, into the millions and launched a gun grab along with it so ya 8 k was a good deal for them.

Edited to add, if he would have done his job the entire story would be different but no money to be made.

Look, HE WAS TOLD BY THE FBI, THAT THE KID WAS COMING OUT THE DOOR he was at,.......... AND TO PLUG HIM THERE."

The kid took an alternate route out, an exit that made more sense.

The FBI is the gang that cannot shoot straight, half the time, as the Boston Bomber case demonstrates......he was their guy too.

Very Very Very True....What a sad state of affairs. He will also work some under the counter details to top that 8K a month income. I would not be shocked if there is some sort of dissability claim filed in the future that is realated to the shooting as well by him to up the pension.

Jim, ya gotta remember these creatures aren't like us. He could live forever and the shame of what he did/failed to do would never enter his mind. Hell, the very idea of shame is as alien to his way of thinking as, well, aliens.

Yes, but cops are special citizens that get extra privileges, such as bearing arms that us mere "civilians" shall not be allowed, as well as a lifetime income.

Cops are heroes and are special.

That is all you need to know.

He should give that pension to the parents of the kids he failed if he had a soul. Hell is awaiting him and you can buy your way to hell.

Well to be honest the citizens of Broward county should be the ones. It is not realistic to expect a soulless critter like him to do it. And it's beginning to look to me like he's a pretty common type down there because the county did in fact give it to him in the first place.

Oregon PERS has the "Police/Fire Extra" that can be paid into. Tier one PERS with this option usually retires at GREATER than 100% of salary....sometimes much greater.

I knew this. If you were a slob looking at a pension of these magnitude, ya think you would really have put on the line for a bunch of kids? He should have been fired but no way with the gub unions

Damn, I should have been a cop. He’s getting more than 3 times the pension / VA disability that I get for 25 1/2 years of service and breaking my body jumping out of planes as a CCT.

Well I know retired Federal LEOs with 20 years of service, all GS12s or above and not a one of them are pulling 8K a month pensions, my father included.

When school resource patrols started up they were mostly either really young guys. 20 odd thousand a month position usually filled by the so-called Clinton Cops.

$100K
nope that's so far over the top it's hard to even fathom.

Maybe Broward County does their retirement like LA Fire Department does their retirement. Retirement pay is based on final base pay plus any unused sick pay and vacation time that is sold when they retire.

I think 60 Minutes did an episode on how these firemen were hoarding their vacation and sick leave in order to sell it before their retirement thus boosting their final retirement pay. Their retirement pay wound up being more than their active duty pay.

Yes could well be however that still doesn't answer how some dick sitter in a school is getting paid above administrative wages to begin with

100K+ is serious money
thing is you can damn well bet he isn't the only Broward County Cop bleeding the tax payers with an offensively high salary for what the public is receiving in return from them.

I have never considered LE in the same class as say a Doctor

Hell, that's a better Pension payout than a Three Star General

Chew on this a bit:
Senate pensions average between forty to seventy odd grand a year. A few long term members can go over 100K but that's very rare.
Remember, that's a damn US Senator.

Maybe all the firemen and police pensions should be like the military’s; based on final base pay only. No sick leave, vacation time, and holiday pay thrown into the retirement pay calculation.

Taxpayers would save a bundle but of course the unions in these Democratic strongholds would be pissed and probably won’t contribute to the Democratic politicians and of course the Democratic Party voters in those districts are too stupid to realize that they are being fleeced by the police/fire unions.

There is no way a retired cop who sat on his ass and let 17 kids get killed should get any kind of pension. He should have been fired.

Broward County has to be screwed up as this POS cop got to retire on a more than full pension while the two SWAT cops from a different jurisdiction, who were the first cops to enter the school, are suspended, under investigation and will probably be punished further for disobeying orders to stay outside. SMDH

I hope the kid’s family who is suing him gets all his money.

I'm not ever going to be willing to go that far Mebs
most County LEOs live on pretty meager pensions, really shitty even. That's why this shocks me. Remember this clown was a mere Deputy. In my County he would be 30 to 40K at best which is realistic considering local salaries are sub 50K for a Deputy.

I tend to agree with Gman, we should be paying LEOs more. I would pay a bit more for high quality canidates and pay for that by employing less of them
that said, 100K is stuck on stupid for a patrolman's salary

Maybe as well as being a coward, he was a smart investor. Maxed out his deferred comp every paycheck, and ate ramen noodles instead of steak. Avoided divorce and child support.

He needs to enjoy his pension while it lasts until the unavoidable civil suits break him, since he is no longer has city attornies or his job providing coverage.

Duh Broward Coward was making $75k base, but the up-their-own-arse Demon-crap "formula" allows overtime and etc. to be "factored" in...

... fugger this close to pension day should've been dispatching or otherwise riding a desk. Not excusing what he failed to do, just saying that after surviving 33 years in this "multi-cultural" transient cesspool known as So-Fla, this kind of behavior this close to retirement should've been predicted by the #1 fug-up in this equation, SCOTT "4-star" ISRAEL, pretend-sheriff.

OTOH, this *is* a "high cost-of-living" metro area, catching up with Kommiefornia every damned day...

Okay, we won't cut off the police and emergency, but the police have to do some PT, take care of themselves and try to eat right.

Around here you wouldn't find any rank and file patrolmen even coming close to 100K a year. Our state troopers don't do near that well. Heck our Governor only makes about 70K a year. I wonder how high the cost of living is down there and what some other profession would make per year. Say EMT, dump truck operator, etc. Maybe 100K is on par for that area, I don't know?

I know back in the mid to late 90's my agency couldn't keep new hires in Boston due to the high cost of living. They would hire a person from some other state as a GS-5 or if they had experience a GS-7. Once the new hire graduated the schools they went to Boston only to realize they could make much more driving a garbage truck or many other jobs. A GS-5 back in 95 made about 18,700 with the cost of living allowance for Boston it was about 20,000. GS-7 was about 24K with Boston COLA. Many of these new hires quit and went to work for PD's in the area for much better wages. I have seen a G-S-5 living in a camper on his pickup truck in the agency parking lot while he tried to get a transfer or find a cheap place to live so he could bring his family.

As far as retirement income goes it depends a lot on your plan and when you were working. Some county guys did very well in the 80's with their 401 k's. I know a county highway worker that dumped every dime he could into his 401 K and worked every bit of overtime he could get. He retired with more monthly income than his superintendent. He also contributed more to his 401K and worked more overtime for it too. Heck in the early 80's money market CD's got up around 18% I know one guy that dumped money into those and later 401K's. My federal retirement sure isn't 8K a month and I pay a little over $600.00 per month for my health insurance. That being said I don't begrudge someone making a good retirement because he may have invested his money better than I did. I was busy feeding six kids and didn't have a whole lot of extra cash around to invest but that was my own doing.

Same reason oregon has 16 prisons with only 4.5 million people in the state, it creates more government jobs. The more government jobs the easier it is to pass a budget.

Sorta of. My real question is why society has degenerated to the level that cops are in schools. But you may have a point as to the manifestation. People need shepherds.

I believe the reason society is in such decay is simple government policy of managed decline. It's gone on for many decades and the culture suffers in so many ways. Government doesn't solve problems, government is the problem.

That was largely due to the Clinton Cops grants inserted into one of Billies Crime Bills

There was total funding for wages but nothing really for extra cars, etc
Communities hired on the free extra bodies and had to find full time slots for them.
An easy one was to clear out a mop closet in the high school & turn it into the Resource Office where kiddos were encouraged to rat each other out.
Saw that happen in a few smaller cities up here in the 90s

The distressing thing is most people actually WANT shepherds. They like it when someone else takes care of them, they don't want to deal with their own destinies.

Precisely. Back in the day, people didn't call the cops that much for security. People made damn sure that if there was a rogue actor in the herd, it was culled or made aware that there was going to be a cull by the elders of the herd.

Imagine that....... a cop's kid is a school bully tag teaming with another senior to beat up and humiliate a freshman.

You can't live in that part of the country on $30K. You'd need 3 jobs. Cities with high costs of living typically pay more than you'd make in, say, Mayberry.

Before anyone gets (more) stupid, this ^ is not an endorsement of his (in)actions. Only making the point that the officer makes below the AGI (Adjusted Gross Income - Individual) for his zip code:

Average AGI for State of Florida = $60,000
Average AGI for Marjory Stoneman Douglas High (33076) = $114,200

It's a big pension, either way, as it's about 85% of average fully employed income.
