Oregon Shoot Date: June 21-23

When is good?

1. Look at calendar for 2019

2. Think about graduations, etc. you have to attend in June

3. answer the poll with all the dates you can make it work

4. Wait for The ("Ahem!") Committee to tell you when it's gonna be

I'm just joking. Can we please figure out when this bad-boy is? I've got to get this summer on the calendar at home and work.

As before, the Poll results are public.

You can answer more than one "option". We're going to try to make this thing work for as many people as possible.

Last day of school in Corvallis is 14 June. Last day of school in Portland (Greater Portland School District) is 7 June. In *both* cases, graduation is 7 June 2019.

This year I wont be having a doctor stabbing my eyes. Hoping I'll be there whenever.

When do you need a solid “I’m in?”
Is there a time limit?

I'll be there whenever. That said, after the record breaking dry Summer we just had, I think we're due for a long wet Winter.

HawkJr is out of school on the 13th, so that would be the better weekend for him. I am game for any date.

So, is there a date, or did I miss that post?? The votes say 21st, so is that when I am taking time off?

Just got the reminder that June 22nd is the 5th anniversary of shlomo's passing.. I am going to re-up on my vote, for the weekend of the 21st. Saturday festivities as usual, with a memorial shot fired in unison, by all who wish to join the line, to kick off the king shot.

I would be in on the 21st weekend. Couldn't make the 15th, us Prosser Washingtonians have our Scottishfest that day, Scottish game things and beer, I help out with the beer things. And also just an FYI the 16th is Fathers day, if that makes any difference to any fathers.

Yep, 8hrs is about right. Bringing any family or friends that could help drive a spell? You South lake or North lake? 395 to 20 is the direct route, but I could get you the dirt route, if ya wanted a few hours Oregon outback, on the way home.

Woot! Lets get the 21st finalized fellas! Calling all Prossctologists, Diesel diagnostics, sawyers, airliners, breathers of coastal fog and I-5 smog, cant forget the Auburnese and Eugenistas, but lets be sure to put out the welcome mat for those subject to the jurisdiction of the Peoples Republic of Calistan. Who am I missing? Idaho and Utah, of course! Will there be any family or friends making the trek this year?

Can SOMEBODY post the countdown clock?

Plenty of room to camp onsite (kinda why we've been going there for 8 years ), and there's always a need for help setting up events and resetting targets.

We're out in the desert, nearest accomadations are 30 min. away in Bend. No water unless you like drinking from cattle trough's....

You might reach out to totenkopf. I do not know if he plans to attend this year, but he has been to the shoot a few times, and knows the route.

Typical agenda is arrive and sight in Thursday, shoot steel for time on Friday (usually stages like pistol, 3gun and row jimmy) and Saturday(drop 15, moses, long range/bolt gun and finish with king shot), drive home Sunday. Stages get organized in whichever order the the volunteers want to run them. Come for what you can, you can volunteer to run a stage or support a stage. For the early years, I showed up on Sunday for a few hours of range time, cause thats all I could swing with my schedule.

In years past, we have averaged 500 to a thousand posts and 50 to 100 thousand views, in the annual shoot threads. Of course that always involved big personalities cooking up big stories and camp legends. Some of those personalities have washed out and most camp legends have proven true, over the years. I really appreciate all the risk takers, that have gambled on a trip to the desert and found it worth a regular contribution. This year's thread, while lacking the usual swinging of handbags, has kept the viewer's interest with "just the facts, ma'am", so how bout you all throw down a few nostalgia posts, to build on this year's commemerative occasion?

The first time I hauled out the toilet, all the toilet paper unrolled and blew out the door, onto the highway... The second time I hauled out the toilet, the door was zip tyed shut!

Same here, you stole my thunder...

But I'll add that one of the years we met to pickup the blue palace, I backed up my truck and you hooked it up....I never checked what you did....got several miles out of town and Lisa and I kept hearing a clunking noise back there. I stopped and found you hadn't locked the hitch to the ball...just picture that "Epic" mess on Hwy 20...

The left hub separating on the dung den 2 miles out of camp last year was fun.....

....thankfully, it did not happen on Hwy 20.

See there, you had plenty of thunder, coming from the loose stool on your hitch... not my best moment!

And they had the nerve to take all those high quality photos, without posting them on the shoot thread!

Nuther one: early days at the pit, before the introduction of steel, brunop said he was saving milk jugs to fill with water, for targets. Well, for about 6 months, I had to keep telling the Mrs that it was okay to have one bay in the garage, slowly filling with black garbage bags, full of empties. About half ended up with holes in them!

Oh, think of the good service we are doing for our country and the local branches of its security agencies. Providing a safe, predictable line of fire and friendly area to practice operations that would normally be directed at actual extremist groups. That has got to be one of our greatest contributions to the public good, besides rolling out our own shitter. From the plane, to the "firefighter" making first contact and practicing his lines, to the loach and its roaches, all getting experience watching and listening to a bunch of farts, in the wind!

I've been to the last 3 shoots. I have an awesome time every year so far. Even when it snowed on us in "Juneuary", and when that Farking popper wouldn't go down with a 5.56, no matter how many times I beat on it.

Big thanks to Rich (and everyone else) for the invite and all the work he puts into this thing.

Some photos from past shoots:

2016 was a great year, thanks for posting up the awesome pics! Yanno, Im probably not supposed to smirk that hard, when packing a fist full of purple pork... but that was a fun toy!

Eta: that spread really sums up the weekend. Bunch of family fun, in the sun... or rain, or snow, and dont forget the ever present WIND!

Im recalling an offroad adventure that led to a busted HarHar oil pan, and its resulting tow strap recovery all the way back to Bend....terrible waste of a beatiful afternoon. What a HOOT! Glad I wasn't around when the carnage was revealed to Mom....

Dang, that one was a doozie. She had NO sense of humor about the purple people eater getting sidelined with a fist sized hole in its bottom. Who knew Chevy oilpans were thin cast aluminum? They dont stand up to no little rock dings, nope, not at all...

I was very thankful for the tow out. Didnt wanna see the look on her face when I told her it was still sitting in the desert, bleeding out!

Been toying with the idea of bringing the "new to us" motorhome this year... but that last quarter mile...

Just stay lively on the gas and double the whoops in that middle section. Might even clear the black water dump tube if ya air it out, in that one spot before the second little bend. Getting up the final climb is easy peasy, after that. I think 4x401's bro-inlaw ran a double axle 5th wheel out, a couple years back.

At least he got to drive it home...

The first year that vanilla gorilla and oregonfaler made it out, they missed that first turn at the cattle guard, as it was late and dark, plus they may have had bottled courage making decisions for them. Evidently they drove straight over the top and came down the power lines. Bet they didnt forget to make the turn, after that ride.

We barely made it back to camp, what with the Scots at the
observatory and the blue cup driving.
