WTS?: SS Ruger Mini 14 Ranch Rifle Factory Folding Stock

https://www.gunbroker.com/item/802933897

So I have a Ruger SS Mini 14 Ranch Rifle with a factory Folding stock that I have had since I was in HS (My graduation present). It is every bit the rifle in this auction sans the box and papers. I joined the Army soon after graduating HS and it has sat virtually untouched since.......Do a completed auction search......this appears to be a thing.

Should I sell it or hold onto it? Mods feel free to move this if you wish...put it here for the MP exposure.....seems relevant.

Prices on these over the years have become insane. If I owned one and someone came along with $2,000 it would be gone. Wouldn't care who bought it for me. DYDD but IIRC Ruger has run dry on the stock assemblies so the warranty angle is probably gone now too. Again, DYDD before taking that as fact.

Sentiment has no value. With that said, if there's no sentimental attachment and you would rather have the cash, sell it.

The price has increased since it was new, yes. If you're lucky, it has kept up with inflation. It is not an investment despite the increase in the dollar amount since new and I wouldn't keep it for that reason.

If you want something that will actually appreciate in value, cash it out and replace it with a transferable KAC556. Machineguns are investment grade firearms...even if you shoot them!

If you keep it, take it out and use it. Firearms are for shooting, not collecting, investing, etc. Don't be a fool and enjoy it!

I almost bought one of those years ago at a gun show. Glad I didn't.

I had a Mini for several years. Was never satisfied w/ the accuracy ( blah, blah, blah...)
traded it off to a guy that loved it.

That said, I always liked, and still do, that folding stock model.

If you were ever jammed-up out on the road, it would certainly fill the bill as a truck/trunk expediant.

If I needed the money I would sell,. Otherwise; no!

For that kind of cash, sell it, buy a cheapo AR if you need a rifle in its stead, and pocket the rest.

Good God ... I just looked at that gunpoker link. $2000 for a mini 14 folder? Maybe I should have picked up the one at the gun show for $600. Like lew said, buy an AR-15 and pocket the difference if you need a rifle. I recently bought a Colt 6920 for $800.

Sell and get a chepo AR.
Minis can be improved accuracy wise pretty easy, but a factory folder is worth too much collector coin to mess around with.

Boom! There it is

I don't really have any love for it. At the time it was a choice between it and an HK93 (I know.....) When it came buying time the HK went up about $150 more than the Ruger (They were the same price then) my buddy had gotten the Mini 14 folder, so I opted for the Ranch rifle folder to save the old man the extra expense and it came ready with rings for a scope. Of course hind sight being 20/20 I wish I would have gotten the HK....That being said I was darn near floored when I saw what these are selling for. The HK pain is now less!

I think it is going to go....I have my Pa looking to see if he can come up with the box.

Dang...2K for a mini-14 of that era. Much better options out there now for far less. But if nostalgia is the motivating force....go A-Team

That is a nice looking rifle. I wouldn't sell it. I'd give it a bedding job, a trigger job, put some decent glass on it, and find some good mags for it. Then I'd shoot the shit out of it, and win a few bets from my AR loving Mini hating friends. That Mini can easily be made into a shooter. Good luck on your decision.

NEVER use GunJoker as a damn price guide !!!

I keep telling folks this again and again but few really listen

Stainless standard mini folder ?

Okay my opinion:

1st if yours is a Ranch model, meaning designed for the Ruger scope mount those are not as desireable
The big money ones are the GBs

2nd, The matching box & paperwork adds quite a bit to market value scout

So why did this one run up so high ?
Likely the buyer is a Conneticut FFL
seen him bid up a few things into that stratosphere.
pre ban AWs go for idiot money in State, probably figures on selling it to some Hillary voting Investment Banker from New Haven
I have heard of run of the mill Colt SP1s in decent shape selling for over 3K there in shops

The real money in your gun is the stock assembly

You are very right in your thoughts on a Ban State value. You wouldn't believe what AKs are fetching in MA right now. There are Pre-94 ban and Pre-2016 bans due to the AG's ruling: $1700 MAK 90's?
