South Korean7.62

Anyone ever saw this ammo or tried it. Says boxer primed which is a plus. I just saw it at AIM.

The US Army has fired many millions of S Korean(PSD) 7.62 in training over the last 10 years.
PSD = Poongsan Metal Manufacturing Company Ltd., Seoul, Republic of Korea.

Apparently PMC, PS and PSD are all from the same plant.

Probably of better quality than the ZQI/MKE that some of use bought by the thousands a couple years ago.

Thanks for the link and the find.

I shot up a crap load of 30-06 with that headstamp back in 05 or so. It worked great.

.39/rnd. Who would buy the Malaysian Berdan primed @ .37/rnd now! Does the 83.02 head stamp means made in 1983? 34 yrs old?

I wonder why they sell it. They might need it themselves in the future.

Because they live far from Ohio and the shipping is $34/can. The Korean ammo isn't any younger.

Everybody does it....if a war doesn't happen your "war reserves" time out and warehouse space runs out so you sell it (yea for us) or as is popular in Europe, you pay a BUNCH to demil and recycle it (BOO!).

RECYCLE, not sold for components. Metals are shredded and sold scrap. Powder is turned into plant food or ashtrays whatever it takes to keep it off your loading bench. Instead of $$$ in from surplus sales govts are spending significant $$$ to demil and scrap.

Stupid!

I picked up a few cases of loaded ammo of the East German late production of 7.62x39mm M43 ammo just before they decided to turn it all into green products. I still remember the pictures of millions of rounds of ammo being turned into components, including the powder being processed into fertilizer. My heart still aches over all that waste...

The East Germans also paid millions of dollars to have their old Mig-21s scrapped. They could have made much more selling them to aircraft enthusiasts, of course...

Gotta love how governments are so happy to waste your money...

My 4 cans just came in today. Fast shipping. Opened 1 can and it looks really good. It is packed in 20 round card board boxes with a card board separator inside and inside a 50 cal can. No rust, very clean, and crimped at bottom of cannelure. Might talk my son into shooting some this Sunday.

Risking divorce, or maybe just a good beating, I may have to just take a day trip and drive my truck up to AIM and back it up to the loading dock, plastic in hand.

On second thought, I'd be charged sales tax so that actually makes the shipping a bit more palatable.

I use PMC by the thousands in other calibers (particularly 5.56 62g) and have had my eye on this. I hate it when my supply of a caliber drops below 10k. A local associate is an importer for IMI, and while I bought around 8k of his 5.56, he can't get his .308 below $0.50/rd. So yeah, I'm considering some. Really want to know how it shoots. Koreans have a reputation of "not screwing around" with their military stuff. Something like the threat of death hanging over their heads, makes them take such things more seriously.

about Korean headstamps .........

from http://www.cartridgecollectors.org/h...adstampcodes#P

Quote:
PMC - Poongsan Metal Manufacturing Company Ltd., Seoul, Republic of Korea (probably at the Angang Ammunition Plant). Note that the "M" is shaped like an upside "W"

PMC - Eldorado Cartridge Corporation (previously Patton and Morgan Corp., and Pan Metal Corp. ) PO Box 62508, Boulder City, NV 89006. The PMC headstamped ammunition for ECC has been made in Korea, the Philippines, Mexico and the Repuclic of South Africa.

PS - Poongsan Metal Manufacturing Company Ltd., Seoul, Republic of Korea (probably at the Angang Ammunition Plant)

PSD - Poongsan Metal Manufacturing Company Ltd., Seoul, Republic of Korea (probably at the Dongrae Ammunition Plant)
hope that helps .....

This has to be the shortest post Huey has ever done. Shooting, loading and TYPING...how does he have time to live?

Well, I decided I like being married so I only bought 4 cans. Shipped fast and arrived yesterday. Already had 5 cans of Malaysian sitting there from last month's purchase so not bad.

Nice clean stuff. Its all being dumped out of the boxes into the cans loose with a couple of box fronts with the LOT# and date. I despise having to mess with boxes when loading mags or belts so that's the first thing I get rid of, plus they tend to attract and hold moisture

I pulled one bullet, they are sealed with what ever the black sealant of the day was in 1983.

The powder charge is 46.5 grains(weighed on a Dillon digital scale) of a very fine ball powder and its right up to the bottom of the projo, if not compressed slightly.
I tried doing the shake test to hear the powder inside but no go so I pulled one and found out why. There was a little bit of powder that did stick to the inside wall of the case when I dumped it out. This may be from moisture or compaction over time.

All in all, good ammo at a fair price. Someday I'll get that truck up there.

Shoot it? Buuuuuuttttttt . . .. . We just want to look at it. And fondle it. Under candle light.

Seriously, I too am waiting for a range report. I usually buy ammo in multiple case lots and want to know how it compares to say, the IMI. Which I can get locally by the pallet but is still too high priced.

I ordered 920 rds from AIMSURPLUS. I suppose that it will be here by next week end. That is assuming that it is actually in stock and ships by Tuesday.

I plan to shoot it in my 3 best performing F A Ls. I have Federal Gold Medal Match ammo in 168 and 175 gr SMK loadings to use as a control group for each rifle. I will test currently available surplus ammo before I test surplus that is no longer available.

I plan to post the results here and across the street.

Just as a related aside, AIM usually lists stuff as out-of-stock when it is actually out-of-stock...

Perhaps your experiences with AIM have been different...

I ordered it on a weekend after an "event." I recognize that there may be some lag time.

Patronized AIM last weekend due to great price for boxer brass.
Yesterday, SG listed some stock of the same ammo for $10 less (for my location) so...I ordered more.
I'm weak, I swear, I'm weak.

We haven't seen 40 cent (delivered) boxer primed surplus *tree oh ate* for quite some time. At least I haven't ~ don't know about youse guys.
Cripes, we went years with nearly zero on the US market, other than private sales.
I didn't need it, but I wanted it...like money in the bank (basement ), I suppose.
