Something that caught my ear.....

on a financial podcast I was listening to.

"All debt will be paid for, either by the borrower, or by the creditor'.

Think about that.

Or post here your thoughts on it.

Shakespeare; Hamlet:

"Neither a Borrower Nor a Lender Be"

"This is a famous phrase said by Polonius in Act-I, Scene-III of William Shakespeare’s play, Hamlet. The character Polonius counsels his son Laertes before he embarks on his visit to Paris. He says, “Neither a borrower nor a lender be; / For loan oft loses both itself and friend.” It means do not lend or borrow money from a friend, because if you do so, you will lose both your friend and your money. If you lend, he will avoid paying back, and if you borrow you will fall out of your savings, as you turn into a spendthrift, and face humiliation."

It's patently obvious, at least in its simplest form: if the borrower doesn't ante up, the creditor ( who is actually already out the money ) will have functionaly "paid the debt".

Unless it involves the government, in which case all of us get the pleasure of paying.

Everything I needed to know about "The Bard", I learned from one of my favorite TV shows.

I learned a long damn time ago after trying to help others that they will steal from you until you have nothing left to give and you become as they are if you don't take care of yourself 1st.

Loaned a coat, cash and food to a drug addict/democrat and got none of it back and they came back later asking for more in my youth and made excuses for not returning my property.

Democrats are this way as are damn near all women.

We cannot afford them any longer - at least, I cannot.

Live and learn . . .

OP it sounds to me like they were talking about debt on a time contract. A long term time contract.

My old man told me many moons ago that if you loan a friend $20 and never see him again it was money well spent.

And, the quickest way to loose a friend is to lend them money!

I have been at gun shows with friends and something good comes along but I didn't have enough cash to buy it. All three of the guys offered up the extra cash I needed and it's nice to know when it comes to $1,000 they trust you. Normally I take a thousand to the shows but might spend most of it Saturday morning. After years of dealing with friends and businesses around here they will stand good for the money if I ask them to. I earned it by being the same kind of a friend.

I quit going to shows. Amazing how much money I started saving since I quit doing that.

It IS money as long as the guy I'm trading it to thinks it is. Please pay attention and try to keep up.

I gave up caring what ya'll call it or even want to believe. I know I can trade it for a nice Colt SAA and have no debt after the transfer. Call it corn or call it maize, I don't care as long as I can turn it into wealth.

$20 doesn't make a man a friend or an enemy but it does show you what his word is worth to him.

The thread is about debts and agreements to pay, who is accountable. If you are loaned money to buy something then normally the seller is paid right away. You owe the people that loaned you the money. Question is where did they get the money to loan?

My best friend never paid me $100 for something I sold him. I think he forgot. Or could be cognitive dissonance since he's retired and living on SS and to him I have a decent income. He's still my best friend, but when he starts talking about taking the high road on things, I discount his advice. Your word is one thing, your word when it comes to capital is an entirely different thing.

I understand the gist of the thread. It's pretty much 1st grade socialism. I look back and don't despise creditors for the reason I pissed off money. I despise myself for buying shit I really couldn't afford because I had become accustomed to the American Dream.

My point of view on the thread is they were talking who has the deep pockets to get payment from. It's like school debt that isn't getting paid, government will have the deep pockets to pay the schools but the students have the debt forever.

You got deep pockets and the gub skims enough through special interests to eat steak and lobster with lots of free airline miles. Nah, you are the one paying. They other side just wants some bling and the American Dream and debt.

This sounds like a man who understands that we are responsible for our own mistakes.

I don't despise myself for my lack of wisdom when I was younger, but I don't blame others for my mistakes.

I don't even blame the ex-wives, as it was my mistake for trusting them.
