Gas block question?

Hey all,

Will a metric gas block fit on an inch barrel?

yes but you may need to redo the gasport on the barrel. Metrics are drilled at 90 degrees to the bore while inch gasports are at an angle. Another difference is that inch gas blocks are held on by a tapered pin while metrics are straight through so some modification here may be needed as well.

Much easier to use a metric on metric or inch on inch.

Probably better to try and trade your inch barrel for a metric barrel in similar condition.

Hey thanks for the advise. I am asking for a buddy who has an issue
with his rifle. Its an inch rifle and he put a DSA A2 looking rear sight
on it and now he can not sight it in with the tall inch gas block???

Any other ideas on how to get him on target with that rear sight??

If he has an uncut 21 inch Connonwealth pattern barrel I or someone else on the board would trade a metric barrel so he would then have a lower gasblock on his rifle. Are you in the Portland area Tat2?

I will have to ask him, but I think its a Century rifle with the plain barrel
and no threads. So not really wanted by anyone.

So based on that would you monkey with a new gas block?

And I am down south near Medford.

I would still swap the whole barrel before trying the gasblock exchange..

If the bore is excellent I may be up for buying a neutered L1A1 barrel..

You can get brand new Argy closed ear gasblock barrels from Sarco for $180.. Other used barrels show up here in the marketplace frequently.

Yeah I think you guys are right about the gasblock. He wants
a 16" barrel. I have a 16" Inch barrel I was going to sell him.

I also told him to get an Argy from SARCO and have it cut down.

Thanks I will let him know to pass on my barrel.

I have an argentine barrel that was converted to inch with threads changed to RH, installation of inch GB, and removal of bipod cut, however I wanted to put it on a G1 kit...

Does this mean that whoever did the conversion to install the inch gas block probably re-drilled the port or made other changes?

Would I then not be able to use the G1 gas block?

If you can insert a 5/64" drill bit through the angled port of the L1A1 gas block into the bore then the gas port was redrilled.

Since this whole Gas block thing has revolved around my friend using
a different AR style rear sight with a Para kit is there another sight
that he could use to fix his sighting in problem and keep the inch Gas
block?? What did inch para rifles use? Or is there a taller AR looking
rear sight?

There was no such thing as an inch para.

Why is there a need for an AR style sight? If it is just for "looks" tell him to get over it and use what the designers meant to be on the rifle.

Just use the original inch sight or get a Brit Hythe sight.
