All it took was a little nudge. Received an email today saying they're finally shipping along with tracking info from UPS. Will be posting some numbers later this week.

The barrels are all un-numbered. I think Sarco got the barrels at a different time than the rest of the kit.

Yep, the original complete rifles that came into the US around 1990 had matching numbers on the upper receiver, barrel, lower, bolt and carrier. Due to import restrictions, they could not be sold as complete rifles, so they were separated into barreled uppers,........and lowers with bolt and carrier and sold by different companies. The parts SARCO has are the lower w/bolt and carrier sets that they've added parts to in order to complete the kits. Barrels are new replacements and un-numbered. Not sure about the origin of the other parts forward of the receiver.

Argentine Barrels

I was told by CDNN back when they had bought quite a few barrels from an unknown source and were advertized as Argentine 21 inch open or closed ear gas blocks that after a certain time frame of selling these barrels to customers that all of a sudden they were out and that someone in New Jersey had bought the remaining barrels that CDNN had left in stock. The ten I had bought from CDNN back then were all parkerized, Bipod cut and threaded muzzles with Closed ear gas blocks. No serial numbers on the barrels. I know of others that bought from CDNN back then and they had said that they had bought some of the barrels also and there's were open earred gas blocks. NO SERIAL NUMBERS ON THE BARRELS AT ALL.

Thinking about a kit

New guy here.

In following this thread I'm getting the bug to buy a Sarco kit.

Is this process/exercise have other value than the fun/pride of putting together a Argy kit?

Opinions?

In short: Talk me into this

Um,..............hard to say. I think the Argy is one of the best metric kits to build from(I really like the furniture and high sight line)and the condition is better than just about anything else out there(unfired StG excepted). But damn,...............they're expensive! Maybe not so bad compared to what's out there right now, but I'm used to primo Brit L1A1 and unfired StG kits for $100-150. My ass still stings from having to pay $220 apiece for nice Imbel kits. I would not be messing with the Argy kits right now if I didn't already have the barreled uppers from long ago. In fact, I'm not at all sure it makes any sense from an economical standpoint. I paid $550 apiece for the front halves almost 20yrs ago and now another $550 for the lower kits. I'm not sure even matched up they're worth $1100 per rifle,..............but then again, all my valuations are permanently screwed. I still think of mint kits on Imbel receivers as being $400 rifles.

In today's world where a butthole Century or a Hesse POS is a $700 rifle, a new Argy for $1100 must be a steal. I do now I wouldn't trade even an unmatched Argy for anything DSA builds.

Eagle54 I purchased the lower from DS Arms between 94 and 95 the carrier is unnumbered and their is no bolt. When I bought it from DS they had already converted the lower to a para. I thought thier would be no chance of matching up but, then I saw how close your upper and my lower were and thouhgt I throw my lower in. It is still new I have never used it or the para bolt. GOOD LUCK everybody.

I ordered one of the Brand New SARCO FAL kits last week and it showed up today. All I can say is wow, brand new with no marks or wear and lower receiver, carrier and bolt all matching with number 02713. Was a little hesitant to order from SARCO based on some of the stuff I have read, but must say that I am more than happy. Almost wish that I ordered 2 or 3. Have a DCI Type 3 on the way and hope to start my first build this weekend. Wish me luck.

I ordered from SARCO on 1/26/10.

I was afraid it was going to be a problem getting product out the door because of the things I've heard (nothing horrible, just a little "unorganized"). Called today and I was given a UPS tracking number that showed it shipped on the 29th.

Not bad! Can't wait. SN's posted here when I see them.

Bummer. All I got were high numbers, but at least it's all matching. Barrels are un-numbered, but bolt/carrier/lower are matched,..........all three kits.

I have been watching this thread for a while I can see there are a number of people with orphaned barreled uppers. I have printed that list of numbers We can make an attempt to find the matching parts for you. This will have to be done "as it happens " We can not have the whole batch sorted all at once. This may take several months. Please be paitient with us. If we find a match for someone we would charge a $50 fee to help cover the sorting. If this is acceptable to people we can get started on it. This would just be finding matching parts sets for barreled uppers. We can not find individual parts.
Thanks

Dave,
Thanks a lot!! This is something that everybody here in the FAL Files will appreciate very much! I can happily pay that additional fee if I can get my matching lower, bolt and B/C.
Another good one for SARCO!

Here are some more uppers: 01381, 01738, 01860. Thankyou azecur for helping to set this up. It is amazing how these parts have all been at different distributors and different warehouses all these years and now they all are in one place and now their is a possibility that the parts may be reunited. A BIG THANKYOU TO DAVE AND SARCO!

Thanks Dave. The kits are nice the way they are, but I too would be happy to pay the 'finders fee' for 'my' parts. I'm just glad I've got new Argy parts to rebuild my guns to proper.

Just found another Argy in the closet,...............receiver and barrel 01159, lower 00885. Carrier number is blank and bolt is Brit. Looks like another complete upper half with complete lower half,.............only the bolt/carrier are suspect. Where do these things come from? I don't even recognize it and have no idea where/when I picked it up. Getting old SUX!

I was digging in the closet to retrieve 01469, since I think I have some matching parts in a box that just showed up today. THANKS ABEL! I'll get it together tonight and post a pic of our first success story.

BTW, since the flash suppressors are AWOL on all these kits, what are people planning to do on the muzzles? 01469 has the Argy hider and 01159 has the combo, but the others are going to need something else to replace the muzzle caps when I take the L1A1 lowers off of them. I have a couple of fresh combo devices and a couple of Fabian Bros Mil-brakes I might try. Anyone remaking the Argy hider, or is there much reason to do so? I don't think many people could tell the difference between the original and the combo.

Post a pic and then I will update the chart with your matching 01469 Argy FAL.

I apologize for the poor pics,.................they don't do justice to the rifle, but it's late and we've got a few days of crappy weather ahead. Best I can do for now.

Abel,..........thanks. We owe you one. BTW, I don't think you ought to change the chart to show where the parts ended up. I think you should leave it the way it is so people can see where they came from.

Hi KEV,

It looks beautiful, I am really happy seen this FAL all back together as it left FMAP who knows how many years ago!

Guys, I'm traveling and away from my home computer so I apologize if I cannot make updates to the chart on a daily basis. I will catch up on Friday when I'm back.

Regarding the Flash hider....I was lucky enough to buy an Argy one in the MP and another one from GPG while they last.....I would say that the Imbel or the Belgian combo device are close enough to install it until we can find more original ones....

Educate me - please. What is the difference between the Argy and the Belgian combo device.

Stevens' book shows Argentine production rifles w/o the combo. It makes reference to some paras that were provided to certain units of the Argentine army directly from FN, and they had combos that must have been Belguim.

Argentine Muzzle devices

Argentine export muzzle/combo devices for commercial and LE sales were of a Blued color with no serrations on top and no internal threading for the blank adapter to screw into.

So if you were to take a Belguim or Imbel for that matter and have the threads drilled out from the top and the serrations milled off the front and then stripped of all finish and then BLUED the whole device, It would look like an Argentine muzzle device.

Sounds like a JOB for Moses being he has made all sorts of flash hiders and brakes in the past and has done a very good manufacturing process at that.

Great stuff. Thanks.

So if the question was, which FH is proper for Argentine Military Production Weapons, the answer would be the regular metric combo device? (Including those sent to certain Units directly from FN ...again, referencing Steven's book)

DSArms auctions on Gun Broker

I saw the post about the Rosario Uppers that DSArms has listed on Gun Broker.
Seems like there are 6 lowers listed here that could match up with the auction ending in 9166 on GB. s/n 028xx
I asked through GB if they would compare #'s and try to help w/ your project. 6% chance it matches! Hope it helps.

Well, we have got some breakthroughs with DSA landing in GB with 9 Argy Uppers......let's see who can not control the passion (I am a re-incident sinner ).....

Chart update as of 2/11/10 with DSA Upper serial numbers (Thanks MBR29- DSA Rep!! for playing), Also, I have received the 02832 lower, bolt and B/C from KEV in exchange of 01469 so the chart reflects that first success on this reunification project!

guys, please share your numbers....we know you are buying those kits from SARCO (and some of you need to clean the closet! ) and you are peeking every day to see what happen here....

For the latest chart go to the end of the thread. Thanks.

Hi Neb,
What Upper do you have?

Also, did you finally found the Argy hammer? I don't have an extra one otherwise I would send it to you.....the two SARCO kits are having that cross pind in front of the hammer and what I have in my Argy FAL is a Falcon 'argentinized' hammer....
Abel

Abel

Hey Abel - The upper is the earliest "C" marked CAI/Argentine upper that I've ever seen (002x). I did find a hammer...another member on here was kind enough to part with it. This build was very painful...I started it way before the sarco kits ever showed up. I have another argentine kit showing up on monday that I plan to use with the other "C" argentine upper I have. Stay tuned on those serial numbers....

Some pics. Thanks for organizing these serial numbers!

PS -- If you dont want pics in this thread, let me know and I'll remove these.
