I'll also vouch for Johnny's work! The same care and attention to detail he puts into his replica "Belgian short combo" muzzle brakes, he puts into the rest of his work!
Speaking of........get him to silver solder on of his brakes onto your shortened barrel while he has it!

Is it legal for me to send you my barreled, post-ban upper receiver for a barrel trim & rethread and I have a brake permanently installed when it gets back? I don't have the brake yet and to protect myself, I wouldn't re-assemble the rifle until the brake is mounted. Is this ok or is it a no-no?

Did you install barrel yourself? If so take it off and send the barrel . Because it will have to come off to rethread it anyway.

Does this include AR15 barrels? I have one I would like to have cut down about 3/4" and then recrowned, and threaded.

Is there a problem with cutting down the chrome lined imbel barrels? I've seen post saying they have done it, and posts saying not to do it...

I remembr reading Gunplumber's response to cutting chrome barrels and it amounted to something like... Are you that good that you will notice the slight possibility of your group opening up by a tenth of an inch IF on a maginfied level the chrome does not cut clean at the muzzle and presents some destabalizing character to the round as it exits...

Not a direct quote, but essentially the spirit. Since it is plated, and a different material, sure, there is a chance it might not cut cleanly, or flake or something on a scale undetectable by the naked eye (if it is not a quality barrel). But people do it all the time, these aren't match rifles, and so why the heck not?

Just my opinion...

I routinely dress the muzzle of my Imbel barrels after I take them off by removing the flash hider, then chucking them up in a lathe and lightly chamfering the muzzle with a carbide 60 degree countersink. They're chrome lined and they finish out very smooth and clean. I've seen no indication of the chrome flaking or tearing. Industrial hard chrome, such as used to plate the bores of rifle barrels, is very thin, very tough stuff. I doubt that you need to make any allowances for it when reworking a barrel.

I've had no problems with any of the chrome lined barrels I've done. They have all cleaned up fine with no flaking or tearing.

Re: WTS Barrel shortening rethreading $30

Moses,
I have Century L1A1 with the brake pin visible inside the barrel.
It shoots o.k. (so far), but I'd like to fix it, it can't be helping my accuracy or safety.
I prefer the look with some sort of brake/fake flash hider.
What would you recommend?
I'm in Salisbury.

Thanks
Paul

Paul, I recommend you send me the barrel and I'll cut it, crown it and rethread it. then we can install a FSE fake L1A1 flashider on it. It'd be $30 for the CCR job, $33 for the L1A1 fake brake and $20 to install it(silversolder) I'll repark the barrel for $20 if you want. And $10 return shipping. I'll do what ever services you want your choice. If we have to de-barrel and re-barrel it we'll have to charge more as we'll then have to test fire and check/ adjust headspace.
thanks

I have a Imbel barrel I'd like to have done. Can you e-mail your shipping address and any other information I might need? I'm thinking of 17 or 18 inches long. Are 16 inch length rifles still reliable?

FN states that any length under 18" starts to dramatically reduce muzzle velocity. But yes 16" barrels are still reliable.

Turn around right now is 5 to 7 days. Prices are still the same. In the pic the muzzle in the white is my cut, rethread and crown job and the one behind it is the cut off piece of the barrel.

Is 16.5" a common length for a carbine? What is the extra .5" for? Just curious.

16.5 and 18 are the most common lengths I get requests for. I think the extra .500 is for a safety net in case of measurement question

I got my barrel back from Moses the other day. Man, what a great job. I love it. He cut, crowned, silver soldered a brake on, blasted it and parkerized it to a dark black . I am impressed with your work Moses and the fast turn around time. I live in the same state as he does so shipping doesnt take long but I had my barrel back in my hands on the 7th day. I couldnt ask for a better job or friendlier service. Thanks John for answering all my newbie questions and for a beautiful job. My next barrel will be in the mail in a couple weeks.......

sobrbiker883, I do not have to remove the gas block. It does include opening gas port.
Yes, I also do right hand threads.
If your barrel is on the upper receiver this service is more expensive because I have to remove and reinstall the barrel.

SalBO, I'll be looking for them.
thanks

I recently completed a build using a barrel that Moses shortened, opened the gas port, fit one of his MB's and refinshed. It shoots great.

I usually open the port to .116 for 18" barrels and .120 for anything shorter.
But I'll open it to what ever size you want.

Talyn, I'm glad it shoots good!

I want to cut down and rethread a G-1 barrel , so that the Flash hider is flush with the Bi-pod ging on the barrel. Do you forsee any problems with this if the FH is permanatly attached.
