SPF Australian L1a1 on Imbel SPF (lots of pic's)

Thinning the Herd continues!

I have a nice L1A1 I bought from SLR-5000 a couple of years ago. I usually refinish my FAL's, but this one looked so cool, I left it alone. Really nice furniture (IronWood) and the Imbel receiver matches the slightly worn finish of the rest of the rifle really well. I have shot maybe 60 rounds through this rifle, and she is very accurate. Deposited brass in a nice pile about 4 feet away. The barrel bore is nice and shiny, strong rifling (I hope my pictures show that.)
I believe the rifle is compliant (it was sold as such) But I can't find the original post. There are no markings on the hts. However since I didn't build it, I don't know.

The pictures make the patina on the bayonet and bolt look like rust, but it isn't and is much less noticeable in person.

Rifle will come with a long sling, nice bayonet, and one magazine.

Here's the pictures:

I'm asking $1,400 shipped with the rifle, sling, bayonet and one mag. That's pretty much what I have in this package.

****5/11/2010 reduced to $1,300 shipped. Might not go any lower than this, if it doesn't sell it'll just go back in the safe.*****

First "I'll take it followed by a pm" gets this really nice L1A1. Must ship to a FFL unless you want face to face in north Florida (Panama City to Pensacola) Your FFL must accept shipment from an individual. For $25 additional, I can ship from an FFL to yours. Payment within 5 days, Postal Money orders preferred.

Thanks for looking!

MODS, I'll delete this high bandwidth post as soon as the buyer takes delivery.

Hi Sean,
I am not up on NY laws, so I can't really help much with that. Maybe someone else can chime in here.

Try going dow to Falaholics Anonymous, FAL groups, and check out someone in your state. THey may be able to help you out.

Then just let me know.

This is not trolling, as it has been requested:

That gun has too many evil features.
Only 2 evil features allowed on any post ban gun in NYS
1. mag
2. pistol grip
We're all done here.

Flash hider is#3.
It will also accept a bayonet#4 and grenade launcher#5.
Bad bad bad.

The flashhider HAS to go to eliminate the extra evil features, and must be removed before shipping to NYS to prevent your FFL from going ballistic and calling the cops, or sending it right back.

It is illegal for the NYS FFL to sell an POST BAN assault weapon in the state. That gun was mfg after 1994.
Hope this helps.

Hey V....the Lithgow Small Arms factory phased out the L1A1 around 1991...I know because I left the Army just as the Aussteyr was being phased in...also built at Lithgow...that was 1993...so if you could please tell me how this rifle is newer than the assault ban...9/14/94...I would like to know..."not trolling" but you made the statement sound like a fact. The Imbel receiver could very well be new...meaning I would need to buy a postban receiver...thats possible...but the rest of the rifle has to be legit. If you know something I dont please share, because I would hate to put my FFL buds on the chopping block. Secondly...the post says that the rifle is compliant...there are things you cant see that go towards the magic 3 US parts...gas piston...gas piston spring...trigger....etc....if the rifle was sold as compliant...it is... I have an AK variant...yes, it has a low cap mag, but it also has a pistol grip, a bayonet lug and a few other "evil" features, including it is way shorter and more easily wielded in confined spaces.
If you really know what you are talking about...please educate me.

I talked to the local gunshop and it seems that the laws are hard for them to keep straight.... The owner said that he has a good friend that is a State Trooper and is well versed in the law. He is visiting the shop tomorrow, so I am waiting for a call to find out whats what...

If the receiver is post 94 it does not matter when the parts were made as it is this part that is considered the firearm, I am also under the impression that when the rifle was assembled (that is considered the "manufacturing" in this equation) also effects pre/post 94.

Where did you hail from out here mate ...???

I spoke with a good friend and he suggested that I have the rifle sent out as parts..I could get everything except the receiver...then I would have to get a receiver sent through my FFL....perhaps the way I need to go

Just trying to keep people out of the NYS penal system.

3rd degree criminal possession of an illegal assault weapon is a felony.

2 years ago, a local guy was arrested for having a collapsible stock on an AR-15 clone. Felony.
He lost all his firearms for life, for just putting on a third evil feature. He was picked up for another minor charge and his weapon was noticed.

The whole pre ban-post ban issue is pretty simple in this state.

The upper receiver has to be pre ban to have all the evil features, and you may have to prove it. The rest of the parts can be made at anytime, of course.

I believe that it also had to be assembled pre '94 and cannot be assembled post '94, but that is tough to prove, maybe.

I doubt that it is a pre 94 Imbel receiver, BUT that is a possibility. If you can prove it to your FFL's satisfaction with a letter from Century, good.

Remember the 1st Bush ban in '89 of non sporting weapons may also come into play if it is a pre ban, as the SAC-Latta guns ran into that situation, until the expiration of the Fed AWB.
The prohibition still applies in NYS, however.

Generally the rule here is 2 evil features only.

If you buy a kit and sanitize it, and them buy a receiver, the responsibility becomes yours alone, as the FFL is "clean".

I would not run the risk of a having a muzzle device that allows for mounting the FAL bayonet or grenade launcher. That allows 5 evil features.

In 2003, Century did sell their AWB R1A1 guns with a muzzle compensator and before that, in 1999++--, some L1A1 named guns just with a cut down inch bbl and thumbhole stock.
I owned both so that is true. I still have the thumbhole inch stock

So clearly, you don't move to New York if you like Evil rifles.

Meanwhile, for the rest of the United States...

Sorry if I'm beating a dead horse-but to be clear- the NY law is basically a copy of the expired federal law. If this rifle is a post 94 rifle, it would need to lose the flashider/bayo lug and muzzle threads, or have a permanently attached non-flashider muzzle device (i.e. a muzzlebrake) to be NY legal. The magazine itself is not "an evil feature" as mentioned above and neutering the pointy end would make it NY legal, again assuming a post 94 rifle. Pre 94 rifles are grandfathered in. there is debate on whether the date of assembly versus receiver manufacture date controls, and to be on the safe side, a prudent person with any doubts would just go ahead and neuter it as described to make it NY legal..

the NY state statute-

22. "Assault weapon" means (a) a semiautomatic rifle that has an
ability to accept a detachable magazine and has at least two of the
following characteristics:
(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of
the weapon;
(iii) a bayonet mount;
(iv) a flash suppressor or threaded barrel designed to accommodate a
flash suppressor;
(v) a grenade launcher; or
(b) a semiautomatic shotgun that has at least two of the following
characteristics:
(i) a folding or telescoping stock;
(ii) a pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of
the weapon;
(iii) a fixed magazine capacity in excess of five rounds;
(iv) an ability to accept a detachable magazine; or
(c) a semiautomatic pistol that has an ability to accept a detachable
magazine and has at least two of the following characteristics:
(i) an ammunition magazine that attaches to the pistol outside of the
pistol grip;
(ii) a threaded barrel capable of accepting a barrel extender, flash
suppressor, forward handgrip, or silencer;
(iii) a shroud that is attached to, or partially or completely
encircles, the barrel and that permits the shooter to hold the firearm
with the nontrigger hand without being burned;
(iv) a manufactured weight of fifty ounces or more when the pistol is
unloaded;
(v) a semiautomatic version of an automatic rifle, shotgun or firearm;
or
(d) any of the weapons, or functioning frames or receivers of such
weapons, or copies or duplicates of such weapons, in any caliber, known
as:
(i) Norinco, Mitchell, and Poly Technologies Avtomat Kalashnikovs (all
models);
(ii) Action Arms Israeli Military Industries UZI and Galil;
(iii) Beretta Ar70 (SC-70);
(iv) Colt AR-15;
(v) Fabrique National FN/FAL, FN/LAR, and FNC;
(vi) SWD M-10, M-11, M-11/9, and M-12;
(vii) Steyr AUG;
(viii) INTRATEC TEC-9, TEC-DC9 and TEC-22; and
(ix) revolving cylinder shotguns, such as (or similar to) the Street sweeper.

(e) provided, however, that such term does not include: (i) any rifle,
shotgun or pistol that (A) is manually operated by bolt, pump, lever or
slide action; (B) has been rendered permanently inoperable; or (C) is an
antique firearm as defined in 18 U.S.C. 921(a)(16);....

(v) a semiautomatic rifle, a semiautomatic shotgun or a semiautomatic
pistol or any of the weapons defined in paragraph (d) of this
subdivision lawfully possessed prior to September fourteenth, nineteen
hundred ninety-four.

It takes Metric magazines, but has the inch cuts for tabs on the top cover and is cut for the folding charging handle.

Price reduced $100 to $1,300 shipped. Might not go any lower. If it doesn't sell it will just go back in the safe.

Thanks for the offer, but I'm really trying to free up some room. The only real interest I have as far as trading would be am MSAR STG556 or a PS90.

Thanks,
Davesrb

Thanks again Dave. The rifle is awesome and looked even better then the pictures portrayed. Dave is a great guy to deal with to any one out there thinking about buying one of the other rifles he might be selling.
