Rather unappealing appearance right out of the pack.

Part of the roast pulled away from the slab.
Flavor and texture is actually pretty good considering how it looked when it came out of the pack.

Cocoa Beverage Powder in the pack.
I’ve eaten this stuff before. The trick is to get it to FULLY dissolve, and then chilling it well. Otherwise it tastes like undissolved potting soil mixed with ditch water.

The meal came with the usual condiments pack.
(hot sauce, salt, pepper, TP, gum, miniscule pack of coffee, matches, creamer) Overall the meal was pretty decent. The roast was better than I expected, and the rasins were much fresher and softer than I expected. If they could just figure out how to pack a Diet Coke or a Budweiser in these things, I'd be all set.

In a word: YAK!
Imagine being cold and hungry, Then opening up that meal and eating it with only the heat of your body on it for a while. That is why I will never eat another MRE outside of a survival situation. I almost lost it looking at the pre heated image. The old hot dog meal with the orange colored gel on it: Double YAK! |

I once saw someone whip a sub out of thier pack and start eating it. Must have been a little funky after a few days in the field but still preferable to an MRE.

I think "osmotic" just means the raisins are, well, raisins. They are dehydrated. Osmosis refers to water going through a membrane. In junior high science class, we were told to remember that osmosis has to do with water by associating it with the story of Moses in the basket, floating down the river. When he was brought out of the water, they asked him his name. He said "Os Moses".
That's pretty much the only thing I remember from 7th grade.

I don't think that's possible, the original recipe was destroyed by an order of Congress and the remaining surplus stock used as road fill by the D.O.T.

Why do you keep punishing yourself like this?
Try this: Open your cocoa powder, dump in the non dairy cremer, if there is a sugar packet, dump that in too. Then pour very little water in to the open packet a mix with spoon, keep adding water until you get a tastey chocolate pudding. It doesn't take very much water so be careful, or it will be too runny. Also are you using the heaters for these? If not, are you making MRE bombs with the heaters?

If you get a little plugged up eating this stuff, try eating a piece of fruit like a banana, it usually helps you be able to take a dump. Speaking of dumping, are you digging a cat hole in your back yard to go poop?
Wet wipes get the job done pretty good, don't depend on the little TP that comes with the MRE. Oh I forgot, it is recomended that you drink at least a canteens' worth of water when you eat this stuff, so you will properly digest.

If he has a foldable E-tool, it makes a decent seat after he's dug the hole. You just have to make sure it locks in place!
