It's been a while, and it's the traditional time of year to start laying up food for the winter ... so the time is right for another big Mountain House buy (the best-selling, most delicious emergency storage food available--with a shelf life of at least 30 years).

Perspective--it was this time last year when Mountain House and the other emergency food providers got socked in with months worth of backlogs. It was only in June of this year they finally caught up.

A few things to note on this buy ...

1. This may be the last such open buy by Safecastle LLC before we go to a members-only club system, due to the need to be able to sell some of our listed products at prices lower than what some distributors and competitors care for.

2. This is the first buy that you now have the option of ordering by toll-free number and by directly using a credit card. (You still have the option of using Paypal or of sending a cashiers check or money order.)

3. This buy offers you the option of three different unique Mountain House packages, not available elsewhere (all of which have been hugely popular in past sales here and elsewhere). Two of the kits are available from us anytime and your order on those two is processed as soon as payment is received (expect shipment within about 3 weeks). The 18-can kit is available only when we do these special group buys and you can expect your order to deliver within about 6 weeks, as we need to special order the needed food and re-sort the cases.

This buy is good till September 13 at which point the 18-can orders will be submitted. Prices are good to the lower 48 (please inquire about shipping to AK or HI)

Please be sure to provide your mailing address and your phone number. The shipping companies, Fedex especially, like to have your phone number in case of any delivery issues. It is helpful, though not necessary, if you could be sure to provide your FAL Files user name with your order for communication purposes. Otherwise, your email address will suffice.

Just so I understand this correctly you would divide the number of servings by 2 to determine the number of meals per adult. Is that correct?

Yes, that's how I approach it. Further, I advise having other supplemental food on hand ... especially high fat/protein/calorie items such as peanut butter, chocolate, etc.

Best estimate is that the 3-case package is good for 38 days for two adults--so that is five-and-a-half weeks. With a bit of supplemental food supplies (wet-canned food, etc.), you can easily stretch that out.

So, with some cheap additions. ie. bulk couscous/beans/oil/vitamins etc.

You can get about two months of food for you and your girl for around 400.

Not to mention "MOUNTAIN HOUSE" flavor and shelf life.

Great deal.

What are the requirements for the FALers to join your club?

At this point, the buyers club is in the planning stage. A new website will be constructed with access given to members ... product listings with well-discounted pricing will be restricted to members only. A nominal membership fee will be charged--$10 to $20 ... easily recouped on most any first purchase.

FAL Files readers will of course be welcome to join.

By the way, there is no need to wait for the club to get formalized. I already give the substantial discounts (10-20% or more) to FAL Files readers on almost every product listed in my store. Just browse thru the store and then email me for a no-obligation quote. (Don't buy thru the eBay store checkout to get the discounted pricing.)

Every other Mountain House dealer (some that have been dealers for years and are well established) is quoting 3 to 4 month MINIMUM wait. How are you able to get it in 6 weeks?

Don't know about other dealers--but I'm pretty well established myself--have done several hundred thousand dollars of business this year alone in MH.

Unless something changed in the last 24 hours, there should be no current #10-can inventory issues as there were a few months ago. The latest inventory/backlog issues were resolved at Oregon Freeze Dry by the end of June. Large orders are shipping within two to three weeks.

Of course, the availability situation IS subject to change if we experience another huge spike in demand as has happened a couple of times within the last year.

For what it's worth, I purchased during the last group buy and had to wait about 3 months for delivery and Vic answered promptly every time I had a question. He provided very good service! After the Mountain House purchase I purchased 2 Montague folding bikes, again great communication even though the shipper messed up one order, Vic came thru with good communication.

After three fairly big $$$ purchases, I have no problem ordering from Vic!!!

FYI, I just talked with the responsible manager at Mountain House again less than an hour ago. There are NO inventory issues on #10-can orders right now. All systems are go. She said all such orders are shipping easily within two-three weeks.

(Thanks Jon! Satisfied customers are our purpose for being. We do whatever it takes to get 'er done ... and sometimes, that means battling some difficult cross-currents.)

i am interested, but unfamiliar with MH. do the cans contain individual packages? if not, assuming the power is out how do you keep the unused portion left in the can for a couple of days without spoiling?

Each vacuum-sealed #10 can contains loose, unpackaged freeeze-dried food.

The unopened cans store under normal conditions for 30 years plus. Once opened, it is recommended you use the balance of the food in that can within two to three weeks. The precooked freeze-dried food does not require refrigeration when the can is opened. Each can comes with a plastic lid to re-cover the can so you can keep it viable for a time.

Even if you are the only person eating the food, it should not be a big deal using up a full can (generally 10-12 servings). Figure each can contains 5 or 6 good meals. If you eat the food once every other day, it's gone in 10 days.

That's really not a bad deal to have to have 30 days of freeze dried food on hand for two for $400. A good little insurance policy. You won't get caught with your pants down, so to speak. With the wet canned stuff you're likely to have on hand a 60 day supply of food is within easy reach.

Afraid that IS accurate ... the MSRP on that 8-pouch case is $32. Remember, those pouches weigh 1 oz BEFORE rehydrating.

I always give FAL Filers my prime discounts on any Katadyn water filter product desired. Let me now what you're looking at and I'll give you my best quote.

And I'll go with JS as regards JC. Ordered the 25 case order on the last go-round and had no complaints. Any time I sent a ?? it was answerd promptly with no BS. And the stuff came in right about when he said it would.

Glad you found the food listings. Yes, some folks overlook the links and/or don't scroll down those pages to see the package contents.

To answer your other question Hummerguyinfl, yes, we can do substitutions in the 8 and 25 case packages, though the package price might be impacted one way or the other.

Someone suggested a bit more clarity is called for on the organic fruit cases mentioned previously ...

For $25, a case contains eight 1 oz (befrore hydration) pouches. The MSRP on a case is $32.

ALSO--here's some really cool news: Our large orders are shipping at the moment within 3 days of submission!

I am still telling folks up to three weeks to stay safe, but 3 DAYS! Wow.

The items are out for delivery! Not a bad wait for hot selling items at good price. Good dealings with Victor. Very friendly and quick shipping on my small trial pack.
I must say the food I have tried was quite good. Even my five year old enjoyed the chicken and rice. I now understand why variety is so important with food one plans to store away until needed. Now to get some hard candy and honey.
I should add that Victor offers a number of things that may not be listed. He seems more than willing to search for items for his customers and be a source of information..

Thanks Bybon. Yes, all the 3-case orders are out for delivery (except for one that was requested by a buyer to hold for a couple of weeks). The larger orders were out and delivered previously!!

Since this thread has emerged again, I'll just point out to those who are interested--the 3-case packages are gone (I have to special-order and assemble them). However, the 8-case and 25-case packages are available yet at the special pricing and they are shipping within a matter of days at this point.

Let me know if you want to get better situated for these uncertain times.
