Besides, its really nice to see "Dan's" and "Imbel kit" in the same sentence again.

I got my tracking # less than 3 hours after ordering.

Now if you could just come up with some Aussie 308 ammo for $120 a case, and Imbel receviers for $200 life would be good.

Dan, can I pickup a receiver and one of these kits and I am ready to go? I live in CA, but do I need to have some parts made in USA? I just want to make sure I am legal. I mean does it have the 6 USA parts that I need to keep it legal? Thanks

Typical kits come with foreign parts. You need to add your own 7 US parts.

BTW, 2 kits ordered.

Welcome to the Files! Buy the kit now, this is a great deal.
Worry about a receiver later, and your assembly questions are covered over in the Weapons forum.

In case anybody doesn't realize it, this is the LAST of the FAL kits with barrels we will ever see in the United States of America.

I am NOT ordering one. I'm good already.

For those of you who may be short still, miss this chance and you can sing the blues for the rest of eternity.

Slow down big fella, Kommiefornia says you have to have a fixed 10 rd. magazine. Scroll down on the linked page to "California FALs" to see. BTW welcome to the Files. We'll get you through that first build.

They can make U.S. receivers for these kits in the year 2010, when Imbel kits will be $500. No, I can't see into the future, but I can remember the past.

questions.

I have never built one of these fal's. How do they head space? Where do we get compliance parts? How does mismatched kits affect building? What finish is correct for these Imbels? Does milsurp ammo work okay?( sorry for the stupid question ). Are there any more topics I should ask about. Oh yeah what about the Vulcan receivers? OLDBEAR.

Welcome to the Files OLDBEAR. Start here to see about headspacing.
http://www.falfiles.com/forums/searc...rder=ascending
It is done with varying sizes of a locking shoulder, the size of which is determined with headspace gauges.
Mismatched parts are really not an issue as these won't be "collector" guns. Put one together and shoot it. You can pay a premium for a matching #'s kit but it isn't necessary to build a reliable rifle.
Compliance parts are available by shopping with some of the Vendors here (in no particular order): Gunpartsguy.com, gunthings.com, DSA, etc. or posting a want to buy (WTB) ad in marketplace.
There are several "correct" finishes. Suit yourself.
And mil-surp ammo is the only way to go.
I lurked here a long time gleaning info. I was on my third build before I ran into problems and registered here to get some help. Lots of it available from some real Gurus.
Stear clear of the Vulcan (Hesse) receiver and Century. Go with a DSA, Imbel, Coonan or Enterprise. Dan's kits are metric by the way. Get a metric receiver to make it slightly easier to build.
If you have wanted to build an FAL, this is literally a last chance for a decent kit with a killer price. Get at least 2 or 3 for starters..

http://www.entreprise.com/ They are backordered as is DSA as I understand.
Imbel has a cool website, but you won't be buying anything from it.
Put a WTB ad in Marketplace and/or watch for one to come available. They don't last long usually if decently priced.

You in the IUOE? If so, you can afford more.

Dan ,
Please forgive my lack of knowledge on these .

Are these Brazillian or South African Imbels ?

Are they the Chrome lined barrels ?

I should be picking up an FAL in a trade this
weekend .If I do ,this would be a great spare parts
set !

BTW , Apollo is my home town .

Now I might have a reason to check up on it !

Thanks.

All Imbels are Brazillian (including those that saw service in "Southern" Africa).

The spare parts alone are worth at least twice the cost of these kits. I ordered one yesterday to replace the parts I've robbed from a Dan's Grade 2.

Some have chrome lined barrels, but don't count on it. (IIRC, all will have chrome lined chambers.)

This is VERY good advice! I learned this the hard way on my first one. It will make you do the dance of displeasure, cuss, and throw things you will wish you hadn't thrown.

Trying to call you Dan, no answer all day....

Besides the parts kit, I want to order some mags too, but the pic that pops up from the web site is of a BAYONET, not the FAL mags...

What is Grade III? Good or bad? dents?

You need to keep calling as they are busy especially with this new sale on kits.
Dan is a great guy to deal with. Grade III was part of Dan's old grading system back in the days (years).

IIRC,

III = good condition
II = Very good condition
I = Excellent condintion

From the "reviews", lower was grade II and bbl end was III condition. Per his notes above, these were hand selected, so I would jump on these regardless.
$149 shipped is cheaper than the I/Other guys....

Remember a few years back, when our great, mighty, and all-knowing government seized thousands of Dan's kits. Are these those kits? I ordered 2, this is a helluva deal. Now maybe someone will crank out some receivers.

KIT UPDATE:

THANK YOU - WHOA - HELP -

Due to the demand of these kits we are running a temporary back-log of a few days on shipping. We will not compromise quality.

These are typical grade III kits, starting where we left off a few years ago.
After re-sorting, every bore is swabbed and inspected. Bolts and carriers are matched and then again if the lower is numbered. Checked for missing small parts and accessories are added. Time consuming but necessary to guarantee a good serviceable kit or spare part package.

Again we thank you the members of FALFILES for your support and patience.

Didn't need one, but ordered one at those prices. Plastic money is used for emergencies---this is an emergency. Spoke w/ Dan for first time--very nice man. Pleasure doing business with him.

Take your time Dan. You must really be busy now and I'm sure everyone will be patient. Thanks again.

Received the two kits. Bores are in good to very good condition.

The finish is worn but who cares? A great buy.

Thanks a bunch, Dan

Got my Dan's kit today. Serial numbers on bolt and carrier match. Bore is a very good plus. This was the most important thing to me. Type III lower receiver. Receiver stub was sawn. I thought these had to be torch cut? Inside of lower receiver and parts therein look almost new. Looks like it was carried a lot but seldom fired. Muzzle had poked thru the shipping box. Bipod shaped handguards, but barrel not bipod cut. Included locking shoulder.

Nope they don't have the ejector block included. Wish I hadn't thrown mine away (from years ago) or I'd give them to people in need.
