Tricked out Para FAL's (post pics)!!!!
Been thinking I need a real tricked out Para FAL lately. Would love to see some pics of them to give me some ideas. I know what I am thinking: Para lower, rail cover, rail handguards, forward grip, flashlight mount, 16-18" barrel, FH (though suggestions on the best one would be welcome), and what type of sling! I am drooling in anticipation for some pics!

Traditional is all good, but I think I am going to go for something that goes head to head with the modular M14. So far I haven't seen anyone that has gone there. We'll see maybe I will be the first?

How about a Imbel Para lower on a Coonan Type 1, with a DSA compact front end. Browning long style functional flash hider to bring the barrel out to 16". ARMS Para topcover mount, folding US made charging handle. US parts are receiver, barrel, handguards, gas piston, charging handle, pistol grip and flash suppressor, which let me use a original and issues-free Stg58 HTS set.
Finish is HK Semi-gloss black over park. Built and finished by me. MD |

Well Maddog that rocks. SO how long is the barrel? I am thinking something like 14" with the FH? How is the flash and/or accuracy? That has been rolling in my head as well, a little CQB FAL, looks like a world of fun. Thanks, for the pic!

The barrel is just over 16" with the flash hider. The flash hider is silver soldered on so it will count in the barrel length. If the flash hider were removed, it would be about 13". Accuracy is about average for a FAL. I haven't shot it after dark so I'm not sure about the flash. It is a bit noisy. I have a Leupold CQ/T on it which is OK, but one of these days I am goint to put an Eotech on there.

How about a DIFFERENT para? Does a Kaiser para qualify? Kaiserworks lower with BMAS removable rear sight, Ace folding stock mechanism with ACE SOCOM stock, GP Scout mount, rail interface w/forward grip and EoTech on Accucam base. DSArms short gas system tactical front end with Smith Vortex on a DSArms Type 2. OK, the GP Scout mount is backordered so I'm using an ARMS para mount for the time being. And the lower will be here MONDAY!

The flip side - major components are DSA; sling by Rooster. A few personal touches include: wide-foot bolt hold open, Izzy mag release, and inch selector. Fire control group (HTS) and other lower internals are Steyr, as is the the FH - but heavily modified by Rich.

I wouldn't exactly call it "tricked out" but it looks pretty good, IMHO.
BTW, the EOTech has since been moved to the rear of the mount. I was suprised to find the empty cases taking chunks of steel out of the scope.

JayBell,
I've always felt that the grip you have on your Para is the best-matched grip for a "Para FAL". There's something about the lines/style of that grip that really seems to work well with the straight, tubular shape of a para stock. The flared butt-end of that grip also matches up perfectly with the flared butt-end of the para stock. ...It gives it a more "uniform" look! Birdman |

When I said tricked I meant with not only folding stocks, I was thinking about rails, grips, lights, etc.....Not stuff you don't need, but real CQB/Street Fighting hardware. Maybe I am the only one that thinks about a FAL in this light? Personally I would rather have a FAL for this purpose rather than an AR. Just my .02

Was mine, I really did'nt like the paras all that much - too much kick and too expensive to really enjoy...
It now resides with a board member in ATL. ![]() ![]()

Just in from Rich @ CGW...
...this para is a DSA Type II receiver, DSA Tactical medium contour (short gas system) front end, Kaiser Works custom alloy lower, Bushmaster rear sight (adj for wind & elev), and Ace collapsable rear stock and hinge block - I think I got all of that correct!? With the folder open the stock can be adjusted from 12.75" LOP (w/ pad removed) all the way out to 15.25" LOP. It's pretty handy. Anyway, this puppy is a beauty. It weighs in at just about 8 lbs, pretty light for a FAL. It is pictured here with a 30rd Bren mag converted for metric use. Also, it will soon be wearing a one-point Rooster sling. Everything is basic black, just the right color for an "Evil Black Rifle"!!! ...now, if I could just get that Grenadier Precision mount system...

OK Limey,.......now that Splatman has let it out there is no need to drag Tex into this one as I can confirm that his Rogak PARA does now in fact reside in Virginia. Sadly, the FN marked scope and STANAG mount do not...unsure what he eventually did with it. No doubt a big mistake on the part of the PARA's buyer!!
It's a Type 2 weakness of sorts....................... -KIT- |
