Hey...I'm fairly new here ('bout six months). Folks on this board are great as a whole and have helped me build my first FAL (with a load of help from Ricochet). I learned what WESCOG was from the beginning, but I keep hearing JETER's name associated with it. Did he (you, Gary Jeter) originate the term? If so, I bow in humble adoration of the WESCOG God and plead with him to bless the spinning shaft of my very own Dremel!!!

Well, the first time I saw it, it was from Jeter. Now it's become common on most of the gunboards, kinda like Dan Shea's RKI. Beautiful thing, watching a language being born.

Oh, and it's WECSOG and there be only one 'G' in Gunsmithin',......

Wile E. Coyote originated it. Gary was the first alumnus.

Tool actually coined "Wile E. Coyote School Of Gunsmithin'" in reaction to a mythical AK/FAL hybrid. The Doctor Of Dremel, gary.jeter, shortened it to WECSOG and made it famous beginning last January. Zero to legend in under a year.

I am one of the original Wylie E the Coyote #2, been doing for years with dremel & Every time Tuco zapped me on his old board for defending myself or getting caught in a flame war.It got so bad from terroristic threats by emails that I had to get help from the feds. Believe me it works. Never send threats by email. The dummy tried to pull a number on me & it backfired.

Well Dean, I guess that was before my time (but I'd love to hear about the feud and the Feds!). I guess I knew it was WECSOG (not WECSOG), but got carried away!

At any rate, thanks Gare...

Hey Bite, the FAL/AK may be ugly, but it is truly the best of all possible worlds. (my apologies to Dante).

Evidently he's an educated man....now I really hate him...

O.K....I've watched "Tombstone" one time too many!

Yeah, I liked the movie too. Most people think I'm nuts because I know just about every line! "I'm your huckleberry!"

Okay, I'll bite....

Is the AK/FAL hybrid a photoshop job, or is it a real piece of ironmongery?

Another bite: what's "RKI"?

Yet another bite: What's "BTT"?

Although I've never seen it in person it is reported as being the real deal.
RKI= reasonably knowledgeable individual
BTT= back to top, to bring a post back to the top of the list like this one will do when I get done replying to it.

Please, Mr. Jeter, tell us how the AK/FAL was made... I've tried to find the story in WECSOG and in the FAL archives but haven't found the details. Did you use the AK bolt carrier and rotating bolt?

That is the coolest thing!

I didn't make it.

This critter popped up on AK-47.net quite some time ago.

There was a big flaming thread that evolved from it. Some challenging the utter absurdity of it. Some challenging the ancestry of it. Some challenging the audacity of it. But, mostly just challenging each other. Probably one of the most controversial rifles on the internet.

Seems to me you could Dremel-off the front half of the bolt carrier on the AK to accomodate the gas piston. Rig a gas tube collar under the rear sight. Build a trunion to accomodate a modified FAL barrel. Something like that.

I use it only for inspiration.

Looks like somebody deleted the thread.

Wow!

Thread back from the dead!

I can't believe erols.com is still hosting that pic!
I haven't sent them any money in at least three years.

Just to make things clear on this WECSOG thing, I think its fair to say I "invented" the acronym. Without doubt, the acronym was first popularized on this board.

The expression "Wile E. Coyote School of Gunsmithin'" was a term first heard by one of our members, and uttered by one of his college professors at some university in Oklahoma in the context of the class' unsatisfactory efforts on some assignment. At the time, our member was known by the member name "tool."

Our member "tool" is still with us, but now posting under the name "powderdriver." He abandoned the name "tool" after he was excoriated in connection with an incident on 9/11, where he hot-linked a pic of one of the Towers to a site that frowns on such links. I'm guessing the site owners took action by changing the pic. So, the pic ended up here showing as some sort of unsavory porn image.

Anyhow, if Guns & Ammo says its true, it must be.

All government, in its essence, is a conspiracy against the superior man: its one permanent object is to oppress him and cripple him. If it be aristocratic in organization, then it seeks to protect the man who is superior only in law against the man who is superior in fact; if it be democratic, then it seeks to protect the man who is inferior in every way against both. One of its primary functions is to regiment men by force, to make them as much alike as possible and as dependent upon one another as possible, to search out and combat originality among them. All it can see in an original idea is potential change, and hence an invasion of its prerogatives. The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is very apt to spread discontent among those who are.

I thought about that rifle when I was thinking about the differences between the PSL and the SVD, you could probably mill off the front part of the carrier, and make a plug for it, and have a short stroke gas system [so there isn't so much corrosive gasses going into the receiver area] also it'd probably reduce recoil too, it seems to cycle really hard, and the reduced piston diameter would help with that, the only problem is that there would then be nowhere to put the recoil spring...
