Being that I only reload pistol calibers and don't know anyone locally that reloads or has dies etc for .308, I'm looking for someone who could make up 9 or 10 "dummy" rounds that I can use to hand cycle test my first build. I'd be willing to pay a fair fee for your time and components. Rounds assembled to 7.62X51mm specs would be ideal!! Email me or post here if you prefer.

Thanks,

Rick

Tell you what, I can make you a bunch of dummy's out of the worthless(once it's been fired) berdan primed port ammo cases.
I just though about doing this for myself tonight while I was down in the reloading room (loading 06 tracer for Sunday's MG shoot )

I plan on taking out the decapping pin, FL sizing the berdan cases and loading with pulled surplus M80 bullets. Will follow with a heavy Lee factory crimp.

How out a whole magazine worth for say about $5 shipped should cover it

If you are really safety concious you can get Saf-T-Trainer Dummy/Training Ammo from Dillon Precision. No chance of a mixup and it will make other people a lot less nervious. 308 cost 3.95 for a 5 pack.

Just drill a few large holes in the cartridge case and that should satisfy the safety conscious.

Drilling holes works well, although labor intensive (have to debur etc)
I have taken the lazy route and just mark the dummy rounds with black and red permanent marker.

Bandit, I'll send the snail mail addy, do u want these dummies unmarked? (you can drill/paint/marker them yourself to your own liking)

Marked/unmarked makes no difference. I'll take care of it if you don't... I agree, permanent marker is better (easier) than holes and deburing.

Thanks,

Rick

Putting some fine sand or a small wooded dowel in the case will also help keep the bullet from being set back into it.

What's so hard about using a 300-600 rpm drill press and putting some holes in some live rounds? Steel, brass, no static at all.

EOD guys do this all the time with BIG rounds.

I've been handloading for the better part of about 25 years and wouldn't have any fear of doing this at home. Of course, you might want to err on the side of safety...
