There were some posts on the net that the TZ 80 was bad.
Failure to fire, split cases.

I personally had a split Israeli case, but mine was IMI headstamp. I believe there's a pic here on the 'Files of a separated or split TZ headstamp.

I had BAD TZ 7.62x51mm ammo from Paragon too! Mine was nice sealed .50cal cans with untouched 20rd boxes within. Ammo looked NEW..... but after a couple of total case head failures in the first two boxes I made Paragon buy it back.

Mine was 1980 production

Paragon sold a lot of real crap. I am glad they are gone.

be careful I got some from Paragon and it was mixed head stamps and dates. The TZ 77,78, 79 I had the gas system blow out on a FAL I was shooting with one of these years. The cases blew up on all of these, scared the Sh-t out of me and it blew all the carbon back on my face. This rifle before that never had an issue with SA, or Port Ammo.

Peace,
Craig

chasengineeing,

Do a search on "TZ80" and possibly "Israeli ammo". There are some interesting and sobering threads on the TZ80.

Life is too short to risk firing questionable ammo. If you disagree, I have a decent amount of French 30-06 from the fifties that I will let you have at bargain basement prices!

Just kidding. I wouldn't knowingly sell risky ammo to anyone, and the French stuff, as well as the TZ80 (so I am told) is risky.

Good luck, and shoot safe!

I have had some problems with the izzy ammo too. I bought 3k of it when it was 12cents a round !!. I have had 6 cases crack on me. The story I heard on the ammo is this " It was hot ammo loaded for the Browning Machine Gun that was stored in caches all over the desert, upon arrival at the importer it was delinked then cleaned up for re-sale" . The only time I had trouble with this ammo was in the summer time over 80 degrees. I now only use it in the fall/winter. Maybe someone could verify the MG ammo story I heard ??

Thanks,

Sixgunsal

Total Fairy Tale story on that ammo!.... I had BAD BRASS in my TZ80 ammo and it was in unopened 20rd boxes inside mint, sealed 50cal style ammo cans. It came from the warehouse to me without a hint of 'desert dust'.

It is just BAD BRASS!

By the way...Browning Machine Guns do not require or even enjoy "Hot loaded ammo" any more than the FALs that the Isreali army was using at that time.

Will the "HOT MG AMMO" thing ever die?

So when exactly did Israeli 308 "go bad"? From what I've seen posted, it looks like from about 1978 thru the 80s. Are there any problems with earlier production?

1969 threw 1989 is all pretty much bad. i have seen 69, 72 74 75 76 79, 80 82 83 85 87 all with cases split.

its all 1919 ammo, a gun you can feel safe shooting when a case lets goes, cause it will shoot the ammo and eject the case and you probably wont even know it happenend.

That's how mine came, 2 cans in a cheezy wood container thing. The cans were sealed with a wire with a pressed lead seal on it. Never opened, boogerfooed from the factory,

Thanks for the info, I was just about to ask for this exact bit of info, I got a bunch of TZ brass, and thought the 80 was the bad ones, was planning on loading the rest with cast boolits, but not any more. Once again, thanks!

Okay, well then I got a couple of extra bullets out of that deal. Too bad brass prices took a dump or I could get a few more cents out of those TZ and XN rounds I bought.
