What pistols served with the FAL?

I know this is multiple choice since the FAL served with so many countries.

I'm thinking along line that the 1911 served with the Garand and M14, the Makarov served with the AK, and the Berretta 92 served with the M16.

What handguns coexisted with the FALs in the various countries it served with?

look at what countries used the fal, if it was a British commonwealth country it was probably a browning hi power, Germany used the P1( P38) as did Austria, the Brazilians used locally made Taurus pistols, browning Hi powers, locally made 1911s, most of the rest of south America used Hi powers or clones of them.

I was thinking High power for the SA R1 and Canada's C1. What about the UK? Did they use the High Power also?

Didn't consider the P1 for the STG-58. I would have thought Austria used some home grown Steyr handgun or something.

Max tried another question. "What sort of people live about here?"
"In THAT direction," the Jin said, waving its right paw round, "lives a Han: And in THAT direction," waving the other paw, "lives a Ming Hare. Visit either you like: they're both mad."
"But I don't want to go among mad people," Max remarked.
"Oh, you can't help that," said the Jin: "we're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad."
"How do you know I'm mad?" said Max.
"You must be," said the Jin, "or you wouldn't have come here."

South African defence force issued 9mm Stars, police issued Walther P1's and later the Z88 (Beretta copy).

I wouldn't rely too much on that Wikipedia crap. They couldn't even get a country such as Germany correct and too many need factual citations.

There were a couple of hundred CZ75 pistols with RA numbers from Rhodesian service. That's one I would want more than any other. P38's with the BGS.

There were probable a few revolvers still being issued in the UK when the FAL was first issued. In India the police were issuing a Ruger in 38 S&W when the FAL was being issued. Don't just put the M9 with the M16 as the 1911 was still issue when I carried a M16. I also carried a Browning HP with my M16. If you can think of a handgun it probable was carried with a FAL, issue or private purchased.

When the Indian gov't couldn't get any more Webley Mark IV's because the factory had stopped producing handguns, they turned to Ruger. As I understand it Ruger made 10,000 Service Sixes chambered for the .38 S&W round which was still be made at the Dum Dum Arsenal.

I daresay that these Rugers were the very last revolvers ever made for the old .38 S&W.

And so it goes.

We (Belgium) used a mix of FN GP35 contracts.

They really mixed parts, frames, colors...
As long as the serial was matching it is ok.

These pics are taken in my unit.
Most have a L (Leopold) or a B (Boudewijn) crest on top + date.
Some have FN ZM (navy) or FAe LM (Airforce) on the side.

Older type have the acceptance stamp near the triggerguard and some have the abbrevation AB date BL (means Belgian Army in French+Dutch)
Always 2 serialised mags included

The army has many, but these are mine ; )

Well,

IIRC Ireland still uses a Metric FAL for their DMR. They have HK USP side arms.

Thanks for those pictures Paco! Those FALs were in your unit's armory too, or just the HPs?

I'm sensing from this thread that if anything is, the HP is the quintessential FAL sidearm.

This table is clearly wrong! The Russians still using Makarovs as service pistols? Heresy I tell you! IDPA wrote in stone that the Makarov pistol is *not* a service pistol and the caliber is not a service caliber. So there!

Not just any old Hi Power, but the one and only Inglis Hi Power.

My shooter's still going strong after at 77 years. I've run an easy 50K rounds through it and it's time for another barrel, but it is easily the best pistol I've ever owned.

Ever.

I can't believe that anyone made them any better than the John Inglis Company did in WW2. They definitely made them prettier, but they weren't any more reliable.

Here's a Rhodesian CZ-75, first model that served along side Rhodie FALs during bush war.

Thanks! Yes, it's a Rhodesian holster, probably used for both hi power and CZ-75.

Nice short rail. Can't even imagine what that thing's worth. To think a few years ago you probably could have bought it for a few hundred. Ten, maybe twenty times that now?
