Had his "dingus down" apparently

I once read Jeff Copper say "don't get caught with your dingus down", referencing a DA Auto Pistol's hammer-dropping safety. I just bought a used holster off fleabay for my old 645. Judging from the wear pattern and bulge on the leather a past owner definitely carried his big S&W pistol with the dingus (safety) down (engaged). Why anybody would choose to do so is beyond me, and I am a belt-and-suspenders kind of guy.

May have belonged to a Cop with concerns of having his pistol snatched by a Perp intent on committing mayhem. A local town Cop who carried a department issued S&W Model 59 some years ago says he was required to have the safety engaged.

This is a very real possibility.

I always thought the muti purpose noun *dingus* came from my dear departed pal, but maybe Cooper is to blame!

I can remember my dad saying it probably 60 years ago, and I suspect he didn't invent it

Webster says German or Dutch and first use in 1876 with some great synonyms.

"Dirty Dingus Magee" 1970
Frank Sinatra, George Kennedy.

Never cared for Sinatra personally, but George was cool and it was a funny flick.
