12th Annual Oregon FAL Shoot (June 22/23 2018)
Official Shoot thread for this summer's Shoot.
We used to talk about food and other "assignments". Now we mostly talk mild trash and ask who would be willing to 'run' (host, manage, whatever) which events. I'm guessing that 4x401 will do the Drop 15, and Tuscan Raider will do a Handgun Event. Other events we've done in the past are: Otis Event = multiple targets out to 500 (or 600) 3 gun = mini three gun thing Team Shoot = 8x13 plates at 200 RowJimmy Challenge = 3 clay pigeons at 50 yards (iirc) Moses Match = plate run @ 200 Mil-surp Bolt Gun = plate run out to 300 My suggestion only is that we do the following: Friday morning = Handgun (set in stone) Friday noon = ? Friday evening = RowJimmy Clays (normal schedule - but we skipped this last year...) Saturday morning = Drop 15 (set in stone...) Saturday noon = ? Saturday afternoon = ? Saturday evening = King Shot (set in stone) Can we get some feedback on which of these ^ events we want to shoot? And after we get that feedback, can we get some volunteers? ![]()

Whatever....I'm betting at least one of you is celebrating legal MJ.
So Tuscan Raider...all is correct in the world again. The Rams and Vikings will be in the playoffs. I need an essay on your feelings about this.

I missed Terry's Garand shindig so I don't know what participation was like. If Terry wants to do another milsurp thing I will be his assistant. I haven't had my Garand out to play in a while, I think she needs a little of that sweet sweet love that only burnt gunpowder can provide.

I am planning to do a multi target thing like the one I did a couple years ago. Although it might be a little different, not by much.
One thing I know I want to do different is do it a little earlier before the wind picks up. And possibly see better. Less glare. I couldn't see worth a dang last time. I do have a good spotting scope this time though.

I think Vikings will make it to NFC championship. Whether Rams are there I will not predict.

Maybe his new spotting scope is night vision?
I expect to be running a round of Ironsman quals. Pistol, rifle, .22, shotgun and airrifle will be staged. Now the trick is getting Terry to do the rifle clinic on Friday, so we can put it to work on Saturday!

I have no clue what I’m doing, but would happily put that ignorance to work running a milsurp bolt gun match.

Mil-surp Bolt Gun has four votes in the poll. If that's enough for you to do the work, The (ahem!) Committee doesn't care if you rock it.
BUT... if we have a "schedule" (ha!) for the more highly-voted-for events (Moses, Otis, RowJimmy, and the Rifleman's Challenge/Three Gun), you are going to have to run it concurrently rather than get your own "slot". This is also fine, and I think we've done this in the past. We just have to coordinate the two 'competing' rifle ranges (West & NE), and make sure that the proper steel is in the proper locations. That's on the ![]()

Saturday Morning is 4x401's slot for the Drop 15. He usually starts it at 8:30 or so. Friday morning is Tuscan's Handgun event, and we do that in that slot by tradition, and because we were starting the rifle stuff a bit later for guys who were not showing up Thursday evening or early Friday morning. So my question is this: do you want to do it Saturday at 11:00AM/11:30AM - right after the Drop 15? It will be a better time than the afternoon when the wind is going a little bit more. We can shoot your thing in the late morning/noon-ish time, and then do the Moses Match (only 200 yards) in the windier conditions @ 2:00PM or so. LMK. Thanks for doing it.

Reposting the 'Proposed Schedule' with changes / possible events...
Friday morning / 0900 hrs. = Handgun (brought to you by...) Tuscan Raider
Friday 1100 hrs = Rifleman's Challenge / Three Gun by tdb59, snowhawk jockey, brunop Friday 1600 hrs = RowJimmy Clays by Do We Have A Volunteer? Dinner = Bring Your Own Friday evening = Camp Fire Saturday morning / 0900 hrs = Drop 15 by none other than 4x401 Saturday 1130 hrs = Otis61 Long Range Event by (you guessed it...) Otis61 Saturday 1400 hrs = Moses Match by Do We Have A Volunteer? Dinner = Bring Your Own Saturday evening = King Shot by Everyone We may also have a Mil-Surp Bolt Gun Run by Mountain Bear, or it may be that the Mil-Surp Bolt Gun guys decide to run the Otis61 Long Range Event with their karate rifels. If they are happening separately, I suggest that they happen in the same time slot (Saturday @ 1130 hrs) on the two separate ranges.

However, I'm not too sure about that ironsman qualified dude. Did you know he really isn't a gun guy? Seems suspiciously like an dhs/cia infiltrator. In the age of snowflakes, never trust a man in a 5 panel hat

![]() Let's figure out what you'd want to do as an event. If it is meaningfully different than Otis61's event, then let's get it set up. If it is comparable, and doing the Otis61 Long Distance thing with karate rifels is good, then we're covered already.

Since its likely I'll still be sitting on the line, I'll plan to regulate the moses thing.
Hell, here's a random thought... ![]() Since both stages can be set-up together, I think they could run concurrently. Even if we have an errant shot from the Drop targets to Moses (Try to stay on target friends ![]() I think it's worth trying, whats the rest of you think?

We did pretty well at Dave's last fall with the team shoot using 2 stations. Made it go a lot faster.

I just got off the phone with 4x401, and I want to put a couple of things down for the group to consider: 1. I don't like the "concurrent" thing, because we don't get to hang out and watch the rest of the gang shoot. "Concurrent" is how "real" competitions do it, because they're trying to move lots of participants through and get everyone a scored posted to the board. We are not that, and we've had (in the past) a very good 'feel' which is most easily seen at Brush511's place because there is one range / one location, and everyone is there to hang out, cheer, or give some stick to the various competitors 2. It's gonna make Rich's station take a few hours instead of 1.5 hours or so. I think we'll lose momentum rather than gain it 3. Otis61's Long Range thing should be shot at the west range along the road - with the big berm out at 1300 (or wherever it is...). And Otis wants the long-range shoot to get going in the late morning slot - before the wind picks up in the afternoon. I want this, too. So does Tuscan Raider, who is shooting 5.56x45 at 700 or so... ![]() So we have to decide a couple of things: 1) do we want to 'streamline' the shooting or the hanging out? 2) do we want to "stay" at Rich's location (North Range) Saturday until we're done, and then move to Otis61's location (West Range) - which will make the long-range event happen in the afternoon cross-wind, or are we okay being at Rich's range, then moving to Otis' event, and then back to Rich's range? None of this is any one person's decision; maybe each person should just say that they want to "streamline" the shooting thing or the hanging out thing, and then the (ahem!) Committee will figure out what that means?

Looks like I’m going to help Otis with his match. That way there isn’t a concurrent match going on with the karate rifels. I agree with Brunop. Nice when we aren’t trying to rush around to different shoots.

I think it might work the best that way, and we don't have to set up another range. I'm pretty keen to see what the iron sights can do at the longer distances.
I may shoot Otis61's match with an iron-sighted FAL. Gotta use that rear-sight ramp for something!

Isn't that ACOG on an AR-15 in 5.56? Because I'm talking wind - not optics.
