CNN article on the AR-15.

I brought myself to read this article as I like to see what "facts" anti-gunners believe these days. I think the tactic is to get snarky in the face of reality for most of these folks. I've given you the highlights to spare you guys the pain of clicking on the link if you don't want to. Some chuckle worthy lines:

http://www.cnn.com/2017/12/14/health...rnd/index.html

1) How an 'ugly,' unwanted weapon became the most popular rifle in America

2) How a mass shooting made it a celebrity

3) Before Stockton, most people didn't even know you could buy those guns.

4) Clinton's ban outlawed Colt's AR-15 by name. But the ban didn't cover versions of these weapons unless they had two of these purely cosmetic features: a folding stock, a bayonet mount, a "conspicuously protruding" pistol grip, a flash suppressor or a grenade launcher. Grenades aren't even legal to own.

5)Through a combination of tragedy, profit, fear, curiosity and mysterious human psychology, the AR-15 shed its early reputation as an ugly misfit and found a new place as a nimble, versatile fan favorite.

6)You tell a man he can't have something and suddenly he wants 12.

Well, they are spot on with number 6. They're just now figuring this out?

Yep! That's how I got started in the early 90s when they started talking about banning things.

Actually, you can have a grenade.

Each one is registered as a destructive device, has a $200 making or transfer tax, and is a one time use object because it's serialized and once it's blown up, it's done.

Same for 40mm projectiles, launchers, mortars, etc.

But it helps them sleep better not knowing. This is probably one instance where it's better to just let them think they're illegal to own. No need to stir them up into a frenzy over nothing.

Happened to me. All I wanted was an M14, but then the '94 ban took about a year to get into place, and I used that time to snag handful of pre-ban AR's before it kicked in. Now I have even more. HA!
