Some noob sling questions

Hi All-

Been looking at some aftermarket slings recently. (not FAL....FN FNAR rifal)

Blue Force Gear
Magpul
Troy

Have never owned a sling before, been doing some reading about the different types. Would like to find a good quality, USA-made sling, that will last a long time, both the webbing and the hardware. I noticed that Magpul and Blue Force offer metal hardware, maybe that would be more durable than those plastic clips you see on alot of the cheaper slings.

Anybody used the brands mentioned above? I can get the Magpul and Troy locally, the Blue Force would have to be ordered.

Any and all comments and advice welcomed. Thank you.

Well, would ya look at that, I thought the only choices were 1907, or web. Those fancy tactical f@ckers occasionally pop up with their scmancy Kerr nobuckl.

Just be aware that on a FAL, a sling is pretty much just for carry. You can't sling up tight and use it as a shooting aid, a la M1 Or M1A, as it will most always change the POI to a significant decree.

I like everything I have gotten from Magpul, haven't tried their slings. For the AR I went with a single-point but can't recall the manufacturer. Has plastic buckles and QD latch but the snap hook is steel.

Say what you want about the latest commando gear, but I do like the slings that have the quick adjust strap that lets you slide and tighten or loosen it easily. That is a nice feature.

I have a few Magpul MS3 (Clip) and MS4 (QD) slings on my rifles. They are pretty decently made and function smoothly. They do have plastic buckles though.

The similar in function Viking Tactical and Blue Force gear slings may be better made, but I've not had any experience with them personally.

Look at Savvy Sniper slings. I've had two and still have one on my PTR. Rapid adjust, quick disconnect if you want. I use HK hooks with a quick disconnect buckle. Mine is ambi since I shoot rifle lefty, but they have all three.

Metal hooks wow we just used boot laces or para cord, that we cut off after a jump, to attaché to rifle as we needed or wanted. My how things have changes in over 40 years.

I use the Vickers sling on pretty much everything.. though with the FAL the sling is really just for carrying it around. I tried the M1 sling Army/Appleseed method on my FAL and it didn’t work out as intended.

I have a Vickers by Blue Force. It is nice for a hasty sling application but I've tried a bunch and I tend to like the good ol' fashioned USGI M1 rifle sling. If you have any interest in shooting with a sling as a shooting aid instead of just a carrying aid the USGI M1 is tough to beat, especially at less than $15 as opposed to $50+ for the fancy new types that may do more, but aren't likely to do more that is actually of any practical value.

Get a USGI M1 sling, learn how to use it, and watch your marksmanship improve. Spend the money you saved on extra ammo and shoot it!

I use the standard web sling, black, that came with the gun. Metal hardware.

I don't care to use slings much these days, but, if I have to, it's either gonna be a Turner AWS M1907 sling for a shooting aid or a Blue Force Gear VCAS for tacticool usage.
