Wink Suggestions for competition bolt action set up?

I've joined a local range where they do bench rest and f class competitions every month. What would be a good gun scope combo that could do 600 and 1000 yard competitions? I think I want to stick with the 308 caliber because I have so much ammo and components for it.

I looked at a 24" bull barrel varmit howa action which I would then get a competition stock for it. What other ideas are out there? Looking to stay around 1k or less for the rifle and another 1k or so for the scope.

Looked at the leupold 45 magnification competition scope and the nightforce 42 power competition scope which are both around 1k. Any other ideas?

The first thing you need to do is go to one of the matches and see what the rules are and what the winners are using

For example, the 600yd, F1, PRS matches at Palo Alto requirements;

No scope with a magnification of 25 power

Weight limit. It's 18lbs so most don't have anything to worry about

No compensators. They are allowed if the guys shooting next to you don't mind the noise.

You must shoot from a magazine. It can be a blind magazine or a detachable magazine. No single shot rifles

Since the strings are 20 shot and times, it would be much easier for you to use a detachable magazine.

You might be in luck with this one. I have a regular job but have been starting a gunshop for the last several years. I'm building accurate hunting rifle and rifles for PRS matches.

You're on the right track for a budget PRS build
What I recommend;

The Nightforce SHV 4-14x50 at $1,250. This scope was built as an entry level PRS scope

A Howa barreled action in 6.5 Creedmoor at $540.

Detachable magazine at $120

Boyds Pro-Varmint At $200

For a total cost of $2,110 not including shipping, FFL and assemble this isn't a bad start

My real recommendation for a rifle would be a squared Remington action with PT&G bolt for $1,100 and a Bartlein barrel for $500. Chambered in 6 or the 6.5x47 Lapua.
Total cost for the rifle would be around $2,100 not including scope.
