I think it's time someone organize a Files field trip to Belgium. There are enough members to fill an airliner

My interpretation of an Israeli 'Bush' FAL. Light barrel H/G, H/B buttstock with shoulder plate, 18" barrel.

Clicking on the links will take you to much bigger versions.
Above is some photos of a Type A stock I got for my BGS from Flypaper, which I finished with Boiled linseed oil, my favorite finish. I wish i could convey with simple pictures the depth and movement in the wood, it's the prettyest stock I have ever held. Thanks, Fly!

Thumbs up RNLAF - Dutch Models

I was in the USAF from 1982-1986 and assigned to the 32nd. TFS at Camp New Amsterdam, NL (Soesterberg AB, Nederland) the whole time I was in. Back in those days the RNLAF Security Forces were issued the FN FAL, and it was the version with wood furniture.

Is there in existence a source of information on this specific Dutch model? This is what I look to either build or buy if I cannot get the parts easily. Any and all assistance will be appreciated. THANKS / BEDANKT !!!

Good deal on the stock. Was that Rhodie baby poop paint on it in the original photos?

Wow, just beautiful. I picked up my first FAL a couple weeks ago (Imbel build) off GunBroker. After looking at your beautiful rifles I think I want at least a wood buttstock. Looking around there's not a lot to choose from. I've done some wood refinishing on guitars and basses. I may pick up a beater on GunBroker and restore it. Can I put an L1A1 stock on my metric Imbel? Thanks in advance.

Nope, got to use a FAL stock on your rifle, The SLR/L1A1 stocks will not fit your rifle.

Look around the marketplace, or simply put a want to buy ad up for your wood here.

I've got pistol grips, but no butts or hand guards for your rifle.

Welcome to the FF.

I'm gobsmacked. I would like some more pictures when you have a moment. That stock and grip are simply bonkers, it looks like the moment you pour milk into hot coffee, just frozen in time.
The selector switch side is stunning, but the ejection side is even more lovely.
You may have mentioned it elsewhere, but how did you finish it?

I will get some more pics very soon.
The more I look at the ejection side the more I like it.I like your analogy with the coffee, its right on.
For finish I hand rubbed two coats of BLO,letting it dry a few days in between coats. I then put two coats of Tru oil on it,also letting it dry a few days and using 00 steel wool between coats and after final coat to give the satin look.

The G1 was one of the first variants that caught my eye, although was warned about the general overall condition of most being in poor shape. This kit had an as new bore, good gas system, and matching numbers, so was worth it to replace a few parts to my liking. The original wood was very dark so I refinished it and sold off to a fellow member to finance the hot blue. It resides on fellow member LaC's Stg58.

Potshot,

The sling was from fellow member EX1(Dave B.) The 6-7 that I purchased from him were in excellent shape.

The selector switch side is stunning, but the ejection side is even more lovely.
You may have mentioned it elsewhere, but how did you finish it?
Better late than never. Been flat out busy lately.

Be careful that you don't burn yourself, that buttstock has some nice flame in it.

Bringing this Canuck to life...

I had the good fortune to get my hands on a NOS Canadian 'N' marked walnut stock. The person responsible can chime in if he so desires, but he knows how thankful I am for this piece of timber. The screw holes have never had a screw in them, nor a recoil tube inserted thru the stock.

Anywho, this stock was quite well endowed with... storage gunk. I waved my magic cleaning rod and the age came off, leaving behind a boring, gray palor. From that point, I all but soaked it in BLO, with every exposed surface soaking some in. Five heavy external coats, such that the oil was dripping... and was dry five hours later. It's been sitting for just under a week, with no further applications. I think I may give it one more light application, then let sit for another week, before assembling all the rare ass shit that attaches to it, to include a C2A1 clone. Kev, I blame you for this (you'll recognize the barrel).

I'll post a foto in a new thread of the completed riFAL when done. I'll link it in this thread. I'm no 'yellowhand' but I think I can hold my own when it comes to minor wood resto projects
