Yeah, what's the story? Lovely rifle!
Looks like a late C BGS rifle with regular G1 type sights but still retains the long browning and hog tit.

Serial horizontal on right side of type A lower has me wondering......

Yep, meant vertical.

You mean vertical? I saw that too, have no idea what to make of it. This rifle seems an anomaly to me, looking for smart people to pipe up.

Does this qualify? If you don't think so, I'll delete it. Sorry for the cluttered background.

And yes, I'd say that qualifies.

It's a former BGS rifle in Germany. They replaced the gas block and rear sight with G1 parts.

There's more photos somewhere on here of that rifle along with armorer tools and gauges.

Why is there a hole in the right side of the lower?
Love the little BGS stamp next to the pivot pin. I have three rear sling swivels with that stamp on the way.

I see pics of these lovely rifles as they were originally made and knowing they got cut up for absolutely no damn good reason and it kinda pisses me off. Really sucks ass.

Serial indicates it was a BGS model A, amd subsequently model AF. They were a true type A and had riveted retainer plates, and evidently vertical serials on the lower. Still learn every day here, and inspiration is always abundant.

Now I'm definietly using a lugged barrel on my model A build, gotta love the tit.

Thanks for sharing Nebs!

The tit was part of the rifle regardless of how useless it was and IMHO a proper restoration would include it. Fine rifles either way.
A proper early model restoration would be blued, too, so I have no room to talk about proper when my own build is parked. At least its new park and looks good. Would have been better had the kit come in it's original finish.

Note the unique clamshell for the bipod as well. One member (Rooster?) I believe had one.

My 1st build.....FINALLY!! Original '55 type A stock and grip.

Still need a beater T48 handguard to finish it out.

ETA: Got it all proper now.

Thanks! It is mostly Belgian, and nearly all Israeli contract parts, including the stock and grip. Grip is well used but doesn't have a selector detent groove, almost impossible to find, got lucky with that one, and the stock. I'd tell you how much I have into the build but y'all would be extremely angry. It was one of those "wow I have all these parts already, might as well build a rare early contract rifle!" kinda builds, fell into my lap so to speak.

Barrel is Argy, receiver is LMT DSA, and a few small bits are Israeli, but the rest is Belgian all dated '54-'55, bolt and carrier are both '55, HTS is all '54/'55 as well. I REALLY need a well used T48 handguard to round it out. Oh, and the LS, waiting on a .256 in the mail.

The finish, or what's left of it is most all original, wore down the receiver to match. Up in the air on whether I want to paint it and wear it down, or leave it as is. I think I may leave it for now, I'm diggin it as is.
