Belgian Congo Variant

Thought I would set up some specific variant image threads that "We" could add to and have a great collection of specific variants for reference.
Any stage of build would be great.
Many variants, I don't have and will need help getting those threads started.

If you have any information regarding the specific variant, please discuss.

My next build is going to be a 56-57 Belgian Congo "Force Publique"

I will post pictures as it progresses.

They were in production from 1955-1959 I believe
Here are some of my research pictures I have found.

Here was a helpful thread.

Looks like an M1 and being the Belgian Congo it would make sense

Well, this is what I have for show so far.
It all started with my mystery barrel. 56 dated Belgian bayonet lugged barrel.... I wanted to put it on a build worthy of its status. So I bought a BGS kit to part out for date related parts.
I sold off the BGS stock and purchased a M1 type A stock? and some 3 slot wood that also needed a worthy build to be admired upon.

I'm not sure at what point the Congo switched over from a type A to a type 1 lower, and that appears to be my dilemma.
As far as the other features, its a M1, except for the grey paint. Being everything was dated 56-57, I chose the Congo for my build.

My type A lower, which is impossible to find, is actually a type 1 SRA lower that Dr. Shock currently has, and is making the type A cuts for me.

I'm planning on doing a BFPU look to match the wood appearance. For the most part, I don't want to mess with the wood.

Any input or information would be appreciated.

Yes looking great. The M1 had a longer length gas tube(longer than Israeli) and a short gas tube nut (Type B). Here are some pics from Nebula's kit

Looks like I have to use a R selector also.
I cleaned up the stock enough to match the HG's... will post more pics when I get my lower back.

Just got my receiver back from the engravers.

As soon as I get my lower back from Dr. Shock.... I will be ready to twist it up.

Beautiful collection of parts you have there, Super Fly!

Question: Did you get someone to machine the mag release relief cutout in the upper? Or was it already on the Entreprise receiver when you bought it?

The receiver appears to have been cut that way originally. The enterprise stamp is in the type 1 cut on the right side... It is barely noticeable.

This looks terrific. Excellent job on the "patina" for the new parts! I had to double check that the carry handle and dust cover were new just a couple of pictures up.

Thanks... I used a Scotch-Brite pad on the cover.... The carry handle is actually a nice used BGS one that I found.
I should have the lower this week... I can't wait to get this together.

So here's the final product more or less.... I evened the color out with Dura Blue and gave it a light wear look.... may need to do a bit more in spots.
I liked the product and will be doing a review on it in another thread.

I started off with with a BGS, had a type 1 lower converted to a type A with a M1 stock. Besides cutting for the top cover tabs, that was about it.
The year wasn't right for a M1....along with the barrel. I wanted a older build that used the Wood hand guards and worked with the barrel I got from davesrb.

Anyone know to what unit(s) the white folks belonged? Also, are those Denison Smocks or did the ABL of the period have another camo jacket?

Considering that they are carrying Belgian Vigneron submachine guns, they are probably Belgian troops.

Still undecided on whether to build an early (M1) or later version (M2) of the Force Publique FAL.

Nice rifle. Did you use a BGS gas block or an Argentine open eared gas block?

That's one beautiful early FAL!!

Have you thought of assembling an Armee National Congolaise rifle to go with it?

This thread has all the information. The some crests they have on file so you won't have to pay for design fee... Also ask for the FF discount.

I dunno but the FP grenade launcher did make it into The FAL Primer book along with photos of an original rifle that’s in USA. AFAIK there are only two FP GLs still in existence

FP GLS

Hello Nog, I bought a FP GLS from EX-1 about 8 years ago, It's a square with a crown on top with a standing lion within the square marked 58-097. Let me know if you have any Fal primer books left to sell. Lee.
