Parts kit is worth most of the opening price, if it isn't butchered too badly.

IMHO he wants to much for it.
It is most likely a fine build, Todd's early SW3 (cast receiver) and then later stamped 7.62 rifles were actually fine weapons. They were right and they worked well. It's your money but you are approaching EBO SAR8 prices. I'd spend a couple hundred more if it were my dime. |

It's going to be hard to determine what barrel is used unless you can get more info from the seller about markings.
The spring locking grooves for the flash hider arent a giveaway because US makers (RCM) have been adding them for a while. Over a decade ago there was a barrel available for the g3, I think it was korean (?) that had the correct profile and retaining grooves also. On this rifle the grenade launching ring is missing but that could have been removed from a surplus barrel to get around the 94 ban, just depends on when it was built. |

I'll second the early SW receivers being pretty nice. I've got one that was bent out of a POF (I think, or EBO. It has different characteristics than FMP or HK so none of those anyway) flat and while it was a little out compared to a factory rolled part it was easily fixed.

This will be just my experience with special weapons aka Todd. The receiver I purchased from him in 2003 was an out of spec pos and the gun doesn't run 100% because of it. The semi lower and pack I also bought from him at the same time are both of extremely poor quality. The welds he made to the trigger pack have ALL broken. The specified number of 922r parts he claimed were in the trigger pack are not there ( I could only find 1 out of 4) . The smith I used for the build is a class 2 weapons manufacturer who does very nice work and as a friend went above and beyond what was expected to build the gun correctly. I will never again purchase a product from any of Todd's short lived companies. If the gun you bought runs nice be thankful. Just my 2 cents.

Seller replied and said he thought the barrel had four grooves.

I guess korean have 8 lands. I also see a light mark before the step down on the barrel where the grenade ring looks to have been. What about the flutes?

Eight lands? Seems like a lot for the type.
The flutes are in the chamber. They aid in extraction (because this is a blow back type) and I believe are normally twelve in number. I'd have to get out my own and count them to be sure, memory sucks and I'm to lazy to look it up at the moment. It's good that you can see a remainder of the grenade launching ring, as that might mean a surplus barrel. |

I'm feeling not as good about this because another post talked about someone who had that same saggy trigger guard, and after fixing it, their gun still didn't function, maybe same time as that one made. Gotta wait see.

I'm selling my other HK91 style rifle for 950 so I am entirely dependent on this one working.

If there is any question I'd pass honestly, especially if you already have a working HK G3.
Like I said with the SW receiver I had, it was close but not exactly in spec. I spend a few hours making sure every little thing was perfect and that's why it built into a nice rifle. If it had been welded together as is it would have been a piece of junk. The biggest saving grace was that it was bent out of a factory flat. I'm not sure that all of his were so I can't say how the others were. A few months ago someone sold an FMP clone built by Century for, I believe, $900. If I was going to buy a ready made clone it would be something like that. Those FMP receivers came with the tube and trunnion welded and all Century had to do was press the barrel in. If the bolt gap is good, the rifle will run. Otherwise pay a bit more and get a post ban SAR 8 (the earlier one, not the goofy stainless thing). Those are just as good as HK and easy to de ban. |
