FAL Conversion Kits
Two military models of the .22LR FAL conversion kits were made. They were for the German Army - Erma and H&K made them.
History of the kits. Erma was the first company to make the conversion kits. When submitted to the German Army, they had problems with the kits and from all I can gather about 1500 of the kits were made by Erma. Since the kits had problems, the German Army then went with H&K to produce the kits. The H&K kits work extremely well. These military kits come in their own wooden boxes and are not too commom. The two kits are pictured below. I have one of each and the Erma kit has feeding and failure to fire problems, just the same as the German Army had. The H&K kit has had many thousands of rounds through it with no kit malfunction. If you can find a kit try and get an H&K manufactured kit as the Erma kits are hit or miss as to their ability to function correctly. There is a company currently in the production stages of reproducing the H&K kit here in the US. They have a link to their thread which is; http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showt...=316192&page=7 ![]() ![]() Hope this helps.

The HK kit was also adopted by the Brits, IIRC, who found it best to install them and leave them that way, functionally resulting in dedicated .22 rifles.
The kits were quite expensive in their day - today they are very collectible and are generally priced accordingly when they do show up.

The HK is the better of the two German kits, but they're selling for somewhere around a King's ransom these days. There's also a kit in the final stages of development that's being produced by one of our own Files members, a gentleman whose Files ID is kurbelgehause. You can check the story and progress of his FAL .22 conversion kit here.

thanks for the info.
the guy has them for sale for around 900. Just trying to figure out if they would be worth buying. seems pretty steep for a 22, but if they work well, its got to be cheaper than shooting a lot of 308.

That sounds low to me--compared to some prices I've seen in the past. I think I paid around $500 for one of the "new" ones being developed by a forum member. Paid that in advance (well over a year ago) to help fund the project, and I don't regret it. I trust, in the end, it will be a good kit. But if I had found an original HK kit for $900, I would have bought that instead. |

I haven't priced one in years, but $900 for a nice complete kit sounds pretty low to me, too. If it appears unmolested and has the magazine with it, I'd jump on it.

Kit Details

If you are considering getting the H&K kit, make sure it looks like the one I posted above. If possible, get pictures of the individual parts so we can look at them to see if they are OK. Also, does a wooden box come with the kit? Are there two magazines? One advantage of the H&K kit is that it will function in a full-auto FAL so you can shoot full auto with .22LR which is very cost effective.

22FAL
H&K conversions have been priced all the way up to $1800.00 - If they sold well thats a question.
The H&K were made in Metric & Inch and are by far the best kits. The Ermas like stated have problems. There have been a few real 22 Fals brought into the country - They are scarce and if they come up - EXPENSIVE and short lived. The one files member building kits is an oppertunity that should not be passed up if you really want a 22 FAL. and buy PLENTY of magazines. Denny |

There are 2 kits on Gunbroker up for auction right now - 1 metric and 1 inch.
Here is your chance. Both are H&K made. Denny |
