Took My Granddaughter Shooting Today
We went down to the pond this afternoon where Sarah killed her share of drink cans, bottles, and pine cones. I took a brick of Winchester Wildcat and let her use my daddy's Nylon 66. Daddy died 17 years ago today, so I thought it appropriate that she use one of his rifles. I felt that he was looking down, nodding his approval. A good day of bonding.

It was fun. I've talked with her and her brother about all the lies that MSM has put out lately, so I think that I will ease her up to the M4 before long. She took her first deer last year with a .243, so I don't think there will be a problem.

How old is the young lady?
M-4 should be a cake walk after a .243 experience. I like using balloons with somewhat new shooters to autoloaders. Huff 'em up about cantaloupe size and stick 'em to stuff with duct tape. They get instant feedback and it usually helps with them getting the sights lined up faster. Not sure why, but it works.

She's 13 going on about 30. Tough as a lightard knot and just as country as can be (think Hee Haw). She rides rodeo, has a room full of ribbons, trophies, and saddles that she's won. She'll tell you right quick that she's "Grandpa's boy". I'm kinda proud of her.

You gotta love a girl when the top two things on her Christmas wish list are duct tape and para cord.

Hey now! Those are much older ladies and often don't realize what they are really looking for. Until they find it.
ETA: I can't believe you brought that up in this thread. You find me shameless, don't you?

Sarah and I just finished watching Battle:Los Angeles and she tells me she wants to be a Marine (I think she likes Aaron Eckhart). Mema ain't happy, but I tell Sarah that I will support her 100%. The local high school has a USMC ROTC program, and I told her to join that when she is able so she can get a taste of what it's like and be sure that is what she wants. It's run by a retired LTC and a retired Gunny, so she would be in good hands. OO-RAH!!

I'd be careful with the "13 going on 30" rhetoric....
You know what some of the guys here will cogitate on what that means...I mean, in their own perverted minds. Just sayin'....

That is a great story. My daughter is almost 4 and I cant wait to teach her the things that my Dad taught me about the outdoors and such. I have dads old blackhawk .357. I suppose Ill teach her to shoot handguns with it and some 38 target handloads!

I took my daughter, 14, and son ,13, last week, using the ak47 & mp5 .22, and noted they are almost as tall as me. I still remember them shooting their BB guns for the first time back in kindergarten. Time takes no prisoners.

It is a mystery to me how some guys can be a great or at least really good Dad but suck at the Grandpa thing. My Dad was a real good Dad, maybe not great, but real good. I have no complaints other than he could have bought a lot of gunny stuff (Lugers, NFA stuff) cheap back in the day and didn’t, but then he was not into guns like I am. He did raise three strong, law abiding, family oriented sons that loved and respected him and I guess that is plenty for one lifetime. The sad part is; he kind of sucked at being a Grandpa. I never understood it, I guess he was scared of his daughters-in-law or had an over-abundance of respect about getting involved in somebodies else’s home-life. He had some good grandkids that could have really benefited from some “quality time” with him (like I had) but he never lifted a finger to make it happen. My only child, a daughter, was only one when he passed so she never got to spend ANY time with him. You can bet I would have MADE them both spend time with each other, and they both would have benefited from it. Carry on G’pa!

You are a lucky man. Keep up the good work.
I have had the pleasure of teaching 3 out of my 6 grandkids to shoot. Now if I can take them hunting before I leave this earth I will be a happy man. Not that I am not happy now, mind you.
