Took the plunge. HK33k clone
This is my first venture into HKs. I guy on a local gun board wanted to
trade his C93 converted to HK33k clone. I was a little aprehensive, but after further examination, I believe it to be a decent gun. It was built by "ghilliebear2000" on HKPRO.com. The bolt gap was .024. Here are some pics. ![]()

A ghilliebear build with a Rim Country barrel is a lot nicer than a C-93.

Pretty sure .024 is over spec on bolt gap. .020 is max.
I could be wrong on .223, but .308's were .020.

I did see that. I talked to Jeff "ghilliebear" the builder, and he said
there should be no worry up to .025. I do not know as I am taking his word. |

I shot one of Jeff's MP-5 clones Saturday. It looked and shot great. A friend will be going the SBR route soon (he hopes to anyway...).

So what exactly does one do to "convert" a C93 into an "HK33" given that all the parts are the same? Is that a fancy way of saying someone has gone over the gun? Have the Century markings been removed from the receiver or did he replace the receiver too?

I should have said HK33k, which is the 12.6 inch barrelled version.
The conversion consisted of: A new barrel, add paddle mag release, new front sight base. Some welding here, grinding there, I really don't know all that was done. I do know that is shoots really nice. There is however, a slight "boing" sound when I fire it. Is that normal? |

Love mine, great guns.
Mags are getting hard to come by, APEX still had some, expensive, but were very good condition. |

It will come natural after you buy a couple more.

Another example would be an HK93 converted to a 33K, which by all means could be referred to as an "HK"33K built from a HK93. The purist would consider using a model HK93, combined with an original German HK33K parts kit built with the 93 receiver, re-stamped with the correct markings, thus having an all "HK" gun. (at today's prices, this would be a very expensive venture) ...also HK has issues with remarking something as HK when it is not...something about Trademark infringement. If building as Title I firearm, the same applies, you would need to permanently pin the flash hider to achieve the legal barrel length. If built as an SBR (Short Barreled Rifle, NFA rules apply) the barrel could remain the original length. Confused yet?...sorry!...it's the only way to learn the lingo. Just like on the FAL stuff, which I am not very savvy, I have to do a lot of Goggleing to understand what these guys are talking about. Like the first time I heard the term "Baby Poop" I thought what the he!!...I almost forgot, the "boing" sound? German for "BANG"...yes I'm kidding. Do you have a buffered bolt carrier, pics would be good. The butt stock on that gun is an A2 style which does not have a buffer in the stock. You should have a buffered bolt carrier, I think all of the Century C93's have them. They were built form Malaysian contract HK33's. If you do not have a buffered bolt, I would not continue to fire this gun, without some type of buffer either in the stock or the bolt carrier you take a chance of creating damage to the receiver, and or yourself. As said above, if Ghilli built this I would say everything is good and you have the right parts, but since you did not purchase this direct from the builder I would double check and make sure someone didn't swap anything. Just trying to be safe! Last edited by 21HK; December 19, 2012 at 18:58. |

That is the tuning fork effect of the four prong flash suppressor, which is probably amplified by the extra long prongs on yours. Even the standard length prongs "boing", as well as Vortex hiders. Perfectly normal.
