Bolt face Question

Kind of a hypothetical question, On a Standard action what would be the max diameter you could have on a bolt face. I am "assuming" that no larger than the bold diameter itself, and if that is the case what style action has the largest dia bolt?

Whatcha trying to build? Knowing that might help. Some huge cartridges have been housed in 1917 or P14 'Enfields,' if that helps any.

It really is just a question more than anything.

I do have a 1917 That some day will become a 500 Jefferey, Once I can find someone to barrel it and not take out a second mortgage on the house.

The standard action with the largest bolt face I'm aware of is/was the Siamese Mauser.
Origionally chambered in 8mmX50R (?), a great many were converted to 45-70 with a .608" rim and even .348 Winchester with a .610" rim. Some of the custom gunsmiths did a decent job on these, but Navy Arms and others did a hack job the "Angry Beavers" would have been proud of.

There are Bolt guns made for the .577 Nitro Express and even a .600 NE, but they can't be called a "standard" action. Mostly some form of Magnum Mauser type, they were made mostly by Holland & Holland in the old days, Heym, Fred Wells and A-Square still produce rifles in this caliber, I believe.
Seem to remember a French Mauser named Brevex that also produced actions for this class of cartridges.

Kynoch Cartridges Price per box of 5

.700 Nitro Express 1000 grains $250.00

.600 Nitro Express 900 grains $180.00

.577 Nitro Express 750 grains $110.00

Yea, wish I could get my hands on something like that, I just have this odd obsession with big ass guns,

Why do you think no one has mad a Mauser style action for the 50 bmg, I know strength is one thing but some of these big cases have a much higher pressure than the 50. Do you just think it is the OAL of the case that prevents this?
