FAL & a senior citizen
I don't post a bunch here but I've been around for a long time. I'm reaching a point where I think I should be getting ready for the time I can't use my FALs. I've had 2 heart attacks and I'm not as young and tough as I used to be. I'm finding less and less reason to take my FALs out of the safe.
I have no children and my wife is perfectly happy with her Glock and AR. To be honest, I'm perfectly happy with my Glocks and AR also. I think it may be time to pass on what I have to someone who appreciates the gun and history. Father time is tough son of a bitch. He gets us all eventually. |

You might want to try 6.8 SPC in your AR rifle. Just need an upper and you are GTG. Not much more recoil than .223. Of course, you DO need to reload to be able to afford shooting, price of entry is a tad salty. OR , you could try .300 Blackout, you would need to trim .223 brass and get dies, the trim. Anyhow, you would be able to shoot bigger pills at least. Low recoil too. YMMV.

If it is truly time to pass it on you should find some deserving young man in your area, make the rifle a gift to him and teach him the ways of the FAL. If you find the right person, the experience would be worth far more to both of you than a measly few hundred dollars you'd get from selling it.
Of course, if the kid turns out to be a smart-assed punk who sells the rifle for video game money then you're better off keeping it on your wall forever. Good luck. I know old age gets us all and I am not looking forward to my turn. I wish there were something I could do or say to make it easier.

I'm slowing down too, but what I'm thinking about doing is starting to cut weight from the FAL....get rid of the railed forearm, do a hampton lower, etc. Aluminiumumumumumium mags, etc. Might be able to use it a few more years.
I have, though, come to the conclusion that there will come a year when the stepson gets a pretty impressive collection all of a sudden. I'll keep an AR around, probably till I die though. Couple of handguns, one shotgun. Etc. |
