Mark -
There must be a difference between the T1 and the H1? And why do you prefer one over the other?

cool - I did one for a customer on a DSA FAL mount - machined it flat and pressed in a locating pin, then screwed it directly down to the top cover. Not QD anymore, but pretty low.

Just bought a Texas Weapon Systems railed top-cover (Dogleg Gen2) and rear peep-sight for mine:
![]() Stock photo from their website - I'll post pics once mine gets here. The reviews seem very positive so far - one downside that I can already see is no elevation for the peep-sight rear, but I can live with that. |

I have one ultimak, and one midwest industries.
I'm liking the midwest better than the ultimak because the mount is not the gas tube. |

I use an original Russian style side mounted scope rail and a Russian Cobra sight.
I don't like things mounted on the removable top cover or the handguard.

XS Sights (formerly Ashley Outdooors Sights) makes a High and Low Weaver mount Rear Sight that might work.
http://xssights.com/index.php?nID=si...ghts&sID=rifle It is at the bottom of the page linked to above.

I've always wondered how those electronic sights cope with the heat given off by the hot gas tube. Seems like they would absorb a lot of heat in a very short period of time.
Since Mark uses the Ultimax rail I can assume that they are tough as hell.

TWS rail arrived today.
Went down to a buddy's place to loan him a press and he'd gotten me a Bushnell TRS-25 red-dot sight in trade for another red-dot, so we slapped that on as well. Here he is modelling the rifle: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Haven't shot it yet, but this top-cover mounts solidly - I can't get a hint of a wiggle out of it, which bodes well. Trying to get to the range this afternoon if SWMBO will let me... Last edited by AndyC; June 30, 2012 at 11:43. |

50 yard target from today - center shots are sight-ins, then the top quadrants are FMJ and the lower quadrants are SP:
![]() Bear in mind that, while it was shot benched, there's no magnification on the red-dot scope and the trigger has two distinct "bumps" before it breaks, which is annoying because it makes the dot move. Aside from that, I'm pretty damn pleased at how she shoots so far. |

These have my vote, but they are kinda expensive and they have not released nearly all the models they have "planned". The acog mount would be interesting. I like that they follow the originally designed method for mounting an optic on an ak, rather than shoe-horning a new way in. http://www.rsregulate.com/

The RS Regulate mount is very well made and works great. I have one with an Aimpoint. The RS mount is way better than the commie mounts.
Midwest Industries has a side mount similar to the RS Regulate mount but i think their locking mechanism is better than the RS mounts. Midwest calls theirs the MI AK 30mm Red Dot Side Mount. Check it out. BTW: As always, i am not paid by the above mentioned companies and hold no interest in them other than they make good stuff

I would likely have gone for the traditional side-mount myself, but.... I forgot to buy the side-mount plate before riveting everything together.

Mine doesn't do either that I can sense - as long as it's tighter than whatever accuracy the rifle's capable of, no harm done.
