I kind of did this backasswards. I bought an FN 50.00 in 1981, then got an FN-built Browning Hi Power, then an FNC, another Hi Power, and finally 3 L1A1 kits when they were still relatively cheap about 1994, an Irwindale Entreprise inch receiver, and a Lithgow L1A1 A receiver. I should have bought more than one, but didn't know any better back then. I still have one kit that I don't have a receiver for.
All this happened before I ever heard of the FAL Files. I joined in the fall of 2009, so it's coming up on three years that I've been a member, and I've learned an incredible amount of things I wish I'd known a long time ago about FAL's. I'm now thinking real seriously about building that last kit myself, assuming that Coonan ever gets around to making some Brit pattern inch receivers. The other two kits were built by a local guy who knows his way around FAL's, and both of them run fine. However, if I had it to do over again, I think I'd invest in the tools and build them myself, or would have sent them to either Mark Graham or Rich for assembly. But what's done's done, and I'm not unhappy with the results of the two L1A1's that I had built. And I'll probably be on the Files as long as the Files are still here, which, hopefully, will be many more years.

What happened to Radio and OwlCreek?
ETA: I found this board while searching for the identity of the rifle that Val Kilmer used in the Drive In shoot out in the movie HEAT. I stumbled upon a picture of an FN and misidentified it as the same type. The trail lead here. Once I learned about the FNFAL, my interest in the VK rifle "evaporated like evil spirits at the dawn of day. " (I don't know who first used that phrase, but I like it)

You would think this thread would not have faded away for a couple years!
I was here before this board when it was the "blue board" but didn't find out about this new Forum until I think the second or third day so that's why my # is in the high 300's

Well at two to four years I guess I fall into the second most popular demographic.
Try to get on as often as possible when at home and not out of the area. Lurker for quite a while before taking the plunge. Love the learning ability and obvious camaraderie here. Don't post much because not that well educated in things FAL yet and the majority of things intelligent already seem to have been said. Unintelligent things as well. Figured I would just stay quiet. Thanks to Jen and all the mods past and present for the hard work they do. Bob

Here since 2002. To say that I've learned a lot would be an understatement. Lots and lots of personalities here, too. I foundly recall the "salad years" when kits were being offered on a "2-for" basis and parts were prolific. Learned to simply love the L1a1 and am head-over-heels in love with the NATO round so much so that I've pretty much made it my go-to caliber. Met a lot of great guys here, too.

Started lurking before joining.. had bought a couple of FN49s- one an Egyptian and the other a non-monkeyed with something else I cant remember and sold it to get an FAL after spending entirely too much time in here.... stocked up on the 8mm, a lifetime supply for my Mausers. Then I restocked the 7.62NATO to go with the 7.62COMBLOCK... which I learned here was a POS round and rifle....

Falfred. I read the falfiles everyday, and post infrequently. The files is a breath of fresh air compared to most other forums. The falfiles core is made up of older more experienced individuals.

Since 2000 I think, but I lurked before I joined. Posted on here to ask if a Century/Imbel recvr/L1A1 was a good buy. Recce (I think) and Ted squared me away and I bought it. Still have it. I'm on here just about every day although I don't post much. Miss a lot of the old guys that are MIA or have passed on (Radio). Best damn forum on the Net, this is.

Yeah, people come and people go. Just the flow of life. I originally joined in late '99, but at sometime, during the transition from the blue board I got wacked out of the queue and had to rejoin. We've had some great times here, I'm sure some of you still remember the great times like the Aluma-bombs from Williams, the great knockdown dragout fights between the Plumber and (gosh now I've forgotten his name, builder up in Oregon I want to say, somehow affiliated with Williams), the Jen's great/Jen's a demon threads, and on, and on.
Of course there has been an incredible wealth of great info too, over and above the FN, it's been a great place to hang out. The traffic may be lighter currently, but where can you go with out mall ninja's tell you more crap than you can take, communicate with a bunch of reasonably well educated adults who THINK (well some do), and in general just hang out. Kinda like my local pawn shop, with less things to get into trouble with. Doubletap |

Well slap me silly. I've noticed the thread title for months, and was just assuming it was asking for active duty members in the military. My son is, I'm not. He branched off into more music related sites after highscrewl graduation in '03. I think his handle was lilfalshooter or something like that.
I've been around for 11 years now, but finding more time to surf lately, and it runs in spurts, the farm taking all my time in seasons. Trying to slow down there, and spend more time shooting at the range in the city where the wife unit got transferred to. |

I visit everyday, just don't post a lot. I'd have replied to this thread months ago but I thought the title meant active "military" memebers so never opened it. Assumption. The mother of all 'f'ups.

Present. I've been here a long time. I dont do much with it anymore, as the posts are pretty slow. Lots of the good old guys are gone. Kits aren't what they used to be. But it's still a great place to hang out.
