You are sorry you sold it, but do you REALLY miss it?

I, like many of you have regrets about guns I have sold. But I was thinking this morning, do I really miss any of them? To be honest, I have never HAD to sell a gun because I needed the money to eat or something. I sold or traded guns because I was not shooting them, had others I liked better, or just felt like I could turn the money into something I wanted more and thought I would like better. Yes, I am sorry about the 4” S&W Model 28 I let get away, and the Walther P-38, and the little ASNIB stainless Rossi .22 revolver. I am actually more sorry about guns I had a chance to buy and didn’t. Like a .44 Special Hand Ejector, or a NIB .38 Super Astra A-80. But you know, I do not really “miss” any of them. I have other similar guns I actually shoot (gasp!) and the ones that I sold or did not buy would just be sitting in the safe or closet. I suppose if I were to really have regrets about something it is that I did not shoot the guns I sold more to where I could have justified keeping them!

The hardest ones are those that have sentimental value only to me, but yet I know I must send them on their way before I'm unable to do it myself.

When my day comes, all the buzzards will have to pick from is one pistol, two rifles, and a shotgun.

I've bought/sold/traded a boatload of guns over the years. Matter of fact, I've done that so often that my brother calls me "RDOGO"--revolving door of gun ownership. I buy something that tickles my fancy, and then after I shoot it and discover it's not as much fun as I thought it would be or it doesn't suit my interests any longer, I look for something else.

Do I miss any? Not a single one. I had fun with many of them and then moved on. None were rare or irreplaceable. Life's too short to hang on to a bunch of guns that just sit idle in the safe.

The only gun I miss was the Ruger MKII I got from my father when I made Eagle Scout. That one was stolen.

I have regrets about the guns that relatives sold, does that count?

My dads father, had a Mauser C96, complete with stock, and traded it for a Springfield 1911A1 - Dad and I both regret that one, especially.

Dad had a new Beretta 92F ( perhaps all of 200 rnds through it ), and swapped it for a used HK-P7M13, that he then never used. I really regret that he made that trade as the HK is well built, but just doesn't fit my hand like the Beretta did.

I regret the guns my Father in law took to the police for disposal when cleaning out his Uncles house in FL. Didn't even ask me. Some one in the local police dept got a few nice things for showing up to work that day...

My FIL slept in our house on the way home, too. Not like he had to go out of his way to get them to me. Sigh.

Only an L1A1 I built up a long time ago. It shot very sweet. A guy at the range kept upping the ante till the price was ridiculous.
This was back around '96 or so. I still wish i had that one back.

Two score of years ago I sold a very early 2nd gen Colt SAA in nickle with an Arvo Ojala holster. Probable my most brain dead gun transaction.

I am not sorry I traded off a stainless 6" Taurus 941 .22WMR...nor do I miss that POS. (Its the only piece I flushed in my days of collecting.)

Reading threads like this is a reminder of why I will not sell anything in my collection.

Reminds me of a Carbon 15 pistol, I traded for a Sagia in 7.62x39 and a case of 7.62x39 ammo and $150 ( and I thought I had the better end fo the deal ).

That I've sold: no, I miss none. I've only gotten rid of something with trouble or I didn't like (And honestly: I've told every buyer the problems with the guns, I can't make myself saddle someone with a troublesome gun. AR-180 with a broken scope mount, AK74 that shot plate-sized groups, etc,).

I miss/regret two things.

#1. Deals I have passed on, then almost immediately regretted. Or put off for just a few minutes and came back to find gone.

#2. Deals I wish dad had gotten....frack. Ten years ago, MAS36's, SKS's, Swiss K31's, all for under $150, ammo for about 15 cents a round. But noooooo.....he hated milsurp guns. Now I'm paying double/triple for the guns+ammo.

And then he complains "But why'd you get rooked? That gun ain't worth that. I remember when......*Goes to look in latest surplus catalogue* Hey Where'd they all go?"

An HK4 with all four barrel/calibers and magazines. Plus the original boxes. Plus the screwdriver w/chain pull thru. Bad time in my life and I needed funds. The guy gave up a bunch of bucks to get them but damn I wish I hadn't sold it.
Enfield #4 Mk1T sniper. heavy sigh. what was I thinking??????
Bought it for $200 at a gunshow locally from a guy who said it was a sporterized enfield. Sold it for $900. But I regret it to this day even though I'm not doing re-enacting anymore.

No regrets. It was fun to own the good pieces that I did while I did own them. I hope that others have enjoyed those pieces since I traded/sold them off.

There's lots of cool stuff still out there. I hope that generations of Americans get to enjoy some of these firearms for many, many years to come.

Valmet M72S in 5.56 x 45

I only owned it for a year or so back in the mid 80's. I sold it for more than I paid for it. I guess they are very rare and worth a fortune now.

It wasn't very reliable - hence the sale. I guess I don't really miss it, I just wish I could sell it today.

I had a Beretta BM-62 that I had to move to make a mortgage payment. I got it at a steal, probably from someone who was in the same situation. It's the only gun I've sold that I actually miss.

I was thinking of selling or trading one of my rifles lately because I want something in another caliber that's cheaper to shoot. I dug out the gun, mags, ammo, parts, and other miscellaneous stuff I have to go with it, then realized that I would be making a terrible mistake if I got rid of it.

Since I'm too broke to buy another gun at this point in time, I guess I'll just hold of on making a decision until I'm in better financial straits.

I sold my first duty gun, a SW Mod 19. I miss that weapon. A long term Sheriff had shot himself in the ass with it when he holstered it cocked at a dual-a-tron in the late 70's. That history and a couple competition shoots made it something I'd like to have. It did have a bunch of full house loads through it, however.

I sold several Mod 57's that I miss primarily because they went up in value. I don't miss them on my hip. Was a great pistol cal for everything and I tested ammo extensively on deer, dead or damaged, with them. The flash would have blinded at night and a discharge in a vehicle would probably do some significant auditory damage. This platform, with factory hot loads, demonstrated that N frame revolvers may not be as reliable as a good semi auto...and when a revolvers action is locked, that sob is a club.

Sold a few more that aren't worth the brain strain to remember. I do regret not purchasing my own match Remington when I was a kid on rifle clubs. Let us not forget match ammo for $.50/box...thought they were gouging when it went up to $.75/box.

I sold a HK91 with scope, lite bipod, carry handle and 10 steel mags. I got it new in the box and added the rest. Had $700 in it but sold it durning the Klinton AW ban for $3500. Dam thing kicked like a mule but it shot sub MOA with about anything you put in it. No regrets on this one. I would like to have back a Saga in 410 and the last AR180 I had but still no regrets on any as it was the right thing to do at the time.

I sold a carbine AR-15 I put together on a Colt lower. Was all AK crazy at the time. Then I sold the side-folder Chinese AK I got to "replace" it. Kinda miss the 70 series Combat Commander electro-less nickel .45 too.. It was truly the "best" .45 Ive owned over the years. The guy I sold it to is a black hole of guns... once he gets em they never escape...

I've only sold one shotgun; my double-barrel Stoeger side-by-side 16g, that I bought brand new. I sold it to pay off the rest of my FAL and get her home...

Sorta regret it, sorta miss it. Then again, I know where they sell more...

With that said, I miss the HELL out of my personal weapons!!! I joined the Army last year April and shipped to Ft. Benning in October 2011. I came home for Christmas, where I got to cuddle my weapons a bit, but the only one I shot was the FAL... Mainly because I had bought the DSA scope and a really nice PriArms tube, and absolutely HAD to go play with it!!!! Had it sighted in within a few hours, the rest of the rounds were just me playing around with how tight I could get my grouping.

Still, I haven't touched my FAL, AK, or 1911 (my three most favorite) since December, and I miss the everloving hell out of them!!!

Also, there are three I will NEVER EVER EVER sell:

1. FAL, because she's my baby and I love her to death and if ever the Government comes for my weapons, I will nuke the world before they lay a finger on my FAL...
2. 1911, because it's my favorite handgun EVER, and I did all but STEAL it at the price I paid for it (brand new in box Remington R1)
3. 1897 16g, for sentimental reasons. It's one of two heirlooms our family has.

Also, my AK, but that's because it's kit-built on a hand-rolled receiver, and therefore illegal to sell as a full firearm (if I recall correctly).... I've mulled the idea over of hacking the receiver up and re-selling it as a parts kit... Especially since I only paid $200 for it with the wire folder, and they are going with barrel for at least $300-350 right now (or, last I checked).... Buuuuuuut, they aren't costing me a nickel right now, so there's no sense in selling off my investment before it has had a chance to accrue some major interest....

SAKO Forrester, a short-action .308 bolt with a set trigger and a Mannlicher-style wood-to-the-muzzle stock. Bought it early in college. Gorgeous wood, the point-of-impact never moved, unusual for a full stocked rifle like that. It was "too pretty to hunt with." A friend kept pestering me about it, finally we traded. He has hunted the devil with it, killed 20 plus mule deer and a couple of elk, all over the Western states. The wood is dented and scratched to death. He still loves it and if it has emotions, it doubtless is happy, being used for what it was made for instead of sitting in my safe.

I don't miss any of them. The only one that evokes any emotion at all is the one that I was cheated out of. A 3 screw Ruger Black hawk .41 MAGNUM with factory brass grip frame and the most butter smooth action I have ever used.

M1-D Garand sniper. All original Korean war issue rifle. It was a import from the IDF around 1980.It even had indentations on the stock from 8 round clips being seated to avoid potential jambs.Definitely a rifle that saw combat somewhere.Paid 450$ for it in '80,sold it 10 years later for 850$.Yes I sure regret selling that rifle.I think I bought a mint '42 DOU Mauser and a .22 Mauser training rifle the same day @ the Cow Palace Gun Show.No where near a equal trade. But live and learn.
