AUG owners on the Files
Just wondered how many AUG owners are here on the Files. Can't be too many.
Post up with what version you have if you don't mind. I understand if you want to keep it under the radar though. More and more people seem to recognise and want to fire my A3 whenever I have it at the range. 1st it was just the kids all the time, you could see their jaw drop and start explaining to Dad what it is. Now it seems the adults want to check it out. After stepping away from their AR's, they look at and handle it and tell me they can reload faster,AUG's take special mags, the triggers suck and such. Then when they find out it takes AR mags they want to use their mag and put a few rounds thru it. Then it's WOW! No recoil, man this thing is accurate, hey no springy sound, trigger is great(I have a neu-trigger). It's really cool when a guy has a SBR of some type with a 10" barrel or so and I put the AUG down beside it. Mine is usually same or shorter and I say no tax stamp needed. I now have just over 1000 rnds thru it and love it. Oh, Pete at PJS investments is taking orders for new barrels due in 90 days. 16",20" and 24" I believe for around $600.00.

I have a Steyr AUG (a1), an MSAR STG 556 and an MSAR E4. The AUG is a 20", the others are 16.

I only have a lowly post ban USR model in gray, no FH and a thumbhole stock, still fun to shoot though.

A3 here as well. The ARs mostly collect dust since I got it. I've been following the report on the new barrels, really considering a 20 incher.

I have a 16 inch black A1 that I bought in the late 80s. Very nice weapon, probably the handiest 5.56 I've used.

A3 for me.
I built a 10.5 SBR ar for my wife along with all the BS to obtain the stamp. Rifle turned out great for her, but I didn't want to jump thru all the hoops for another tax stamp. My A3 fixed that problem as it is just about the same overall size as hers, plus mine has a 16" barrel. Only issue was the dust cover popped off while doing a mag dump. It snapped right back into place and hasn't been a problem since. Of course that big piece of Duck tape that I covered it with might have something to do with it. Cleanest running rifle that I have. A neu-trigger was installed and all is well. 1 USA 69X . 20 inch barrel would be nice to have. |

One of its primary functions is to regiment men by force, to make them as much alike as possible and as dependent upon one another as possible, to search out and combat originality among them. All it can see in an original idea is potential change, and hence an invasion of its prerogatives. The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is very apt to spread discontent among those who are. -H.L. Mencken 1919 ![]() Were not that lucky. |

You will not regret that purchase. I have a spare Vortex strikefire Red/Green dot with a mount like this one if you are looking for an inexpensive sight. Works great and Optics planet gives it a best optic for under $500.00.
Good shooting. [IMG] [/IMG]

Augs
I've had two Standard 901 series and a A1 Special receiver Aug also. The A1 special had a Transferable Form 4 military sear pack, NOT a semi-auto that was converted by some hack manufacture before May of 1986. I sold my A1 Special receiver Aug with the Military full-auto pack about 4 years ago for over 13K. with a 14 1/2 inch barrel.

My MSAR XM17-E4
Snagged a E4 when Ratworx was doing their Christmas sale a few years back. Paid $1,300 for it and waited until March. Had a minor issue with the sling stud getting stuck in the stock and Dave shipped me a new stock with a spare parts goodie set (trigger pack, butt plates firing pins, springs, etc...). Hell, they never even had me ship the original stock.

I'm in with my Wilson RR AUG. It's a former Stembridge movie AUG used in "Die Hard". Now rebuilt with all factory AUG FA parts, except for the receiver.

For some reason I have a real jones for an AUG or MSAR lately. I don't have a single firearm in 5.56x45 but I've owned a ton of ARs over the years. I definitely want something different but I'm not quite ready to give up my FAL yet, as it's the only way I can afford to get a new rifle.

Had an MSAR in 2009. Shot it. Didn't like the low profile carry handle sight. Sold it and bought an A1, then an A2. Each with a 20" and 16" barrel...
Neat rifles.

I picked up my A3 last year, put an Aimpoint PRO scope and surefire light. I've shot about a thousand rounds through it with zero malfuntions.
I carried an AUG-P model for 18 years as a U.S. Customs Air interdiction officer and Special Agent. I had the same gun for 17 years, shot at least 60,000 rounds through it with no malfunctions. At the 17 year mark, a roll pin backed out of the charging handle, and I had to send it back to the agency armourers for repair. They sent me a brand new AUG-P, which I carried for another year before I retired. I am now patiently waiting the arrival of the new production guns, of which at least two are going to be mine!

AUGs
Steyr has announced plans to begin producing the A3 again, maybe in the fall.
PJ's had 33 of the remaining A3s made with Sabre receivers available, but were getting snapped up quickly. MSAR supposedly will re-start production, but given their prior issues, a buyer might be cautious.
