Carbine FAL + DSA Quad Rail + Red dot

I'm looking for feed back about using a DSA quad rail hand guard as a mounting platform for a red dot. My 16 inch carbine has been sporting a DSA quad rail for quite some time. It was originally installed so I could use a front vertical grip. I've been telling myself that some day I'll get around to ordering a railed top cover to mount a red dot on. Yesterday before a range trip, I decided, on a whim, to install a cheap red dot onto the quad rail. Needless to say I was very impressed with the results. The red dot held zero perfectly and the quad rail seems to be a VERY tight fit on my rifle. Is any one else using a DSA quad rail with a red dot?? I would very much like to hear everyone's feedback.

Thanks,
Stephen

Lots of people are doing this and/or doing a low power variable (1-4) with great results.

There are more scope covers out there than the DSA, but it is the gold standard for 'solid mount' - once you get it right.

User 'nearmisses' is making a rail that mounts on a standard receiver top cover. There have been a couple of very positive reviews.

Williams did an aluminum top cover rail that was/is very popular - but they're pretty expensive - if you can find one.

A.R.M.S. is making one as well - I have nothing to report, good or bad.

You can mount a VFG to the plastic handguards with the picatinny rail kit from DSA. It can tolerate the torque you put on it, without much added weight or cost.

If you are using a red dot I would consider nearmisses railed cover. It is much lighter than anything else out there. My only concern about it is holding zero for high-power scopes, but for a 1x optic I don't think it is of concern.
