Got a line on one for $329 - been too busy to call on it - I know they are scarce but with transfers and shipping the gun just isn't worth $500+ to me for a surplus .32acp - I have a thousand rds of .32 that I got from God knows where that needs a better launcher than the walther ppk that I have - not a fun gun to shoot for the wimminz.

That's good but keep in mind the ones have are NOT surplus.. Unlike the CZ-82's, these are brand new pistols..

I have a collection that runs 5.7 to .50BMG - I have a thousand rds of DN and ONE German PP in .32 - I am looking for an alternative to the Walther, too many sharp edges for new shooters - and it's a .32.

What's wrong with the PPK? I ask because I have small hands. Some guns are painful for me to shoot, because I have trouble reaching the trigger, so I tend to rotate my strong hand counterclockwise relative to an ideal grip. What ends up happening is the frame recoils into my thumb knuckle instead of the web of my hand. The reason I'm posting this is the CZ-82 is one of the worst guns I've ever shot for this issue. The recoil is already unpleasant because of the blowback action. My unfortunate grip position makes it worse. I actually shoot the CZ-82 really well and like the gun otherwise---it just isn't pleasant to shoot. For comparison, I'd rather shoot my Glock 23 or Walther PPS in .40, or Hi-Power in 9mm (although that sort of has the same problem), or a 1911 in .45.

The .32 might not have enough power to matter, but apparently it does in the PPK. The way I see it, if trigger reach and frame design are the problem, you probably don't want to swap for a CZ-82. If recoil in general is the problem, you might not want to swap for a CZ-82. You don't have many options for a locked breech .32, though. There's the Colt 1903 which is going to be expensive because of collector value, or the Llama. I'd guess the Llama is going to shoot exactly like you'd expect a mini 1911 to shoot. That said, the CZ-82's weight compared to the PPK might be enough to make it more shootable, and if that fails you might be able to get a Wolff spring that would reduce recoil at the risk of also reducing reliability, but if the gun is range toy, who cares? Oh, and if all you're looking to do is burn ammo for fun, you could consider the CZ vz. 61. Last I heard, CDNN has them for $400.

sharp edges - the euro .32 is pretty snappy and makes the gun unpleasant to shoot - my wife and kids won't want to plink/learn on it.

The closest I've shot to a PPK is the Polish P-64, which is brutal for any size hands, even with a Wolff XP recoil spring. All I'm saying is make sure they can manage the trigger reach, because the CZ-83 will be unpleasant if they can't.

I'm stumped - how hard is it for one of these over sized, under powered pistols to appear? it's a fricken .32 in a 9MM envelope and NOBODY wants to sell - must be a great pistol...

They ARE great pistols..
I'm still kina confused though by a post or two?? I "think" above somewhere you refer to these as "Surplus" but they are currently being made..
While I have seen many 82's on the surplus market I don't recall seeing near as many (if any a all?) in .32?

Yes it is "just a .32" but it and the 83 in .380 are IMHO quite possibly the very best of their types available.. Much better the the PPK and maybe even better then the SIG 238.. 15 rds of .32 is pretty unique and the pistols are built like little tanks..

If you havn't found one yet lemme see what I have to get for one of the ones we have at the shop?

It's not an 83, but how about this used CZ 70 in 32 at Widener's?

SR - I have one already - doesn't fit the bill for what I want (trainer for the wimminz):-) ZERO chance of a gal pulling that dbl action trigger - too snappy - sharp edges... fine for us crusty bastards - not so good for a 80lb 15 year old girl...
