Ok, let me be PERFECTLY clear here.
From what I've heard, Dan Coonan is an honorable guy, so,... If commitments are needed, how's this: I'll send him payment in full for two inch receivers, both to be serialed in the numbers of my choosing, and he can keep the cash for up to a year upon which, failing to produce, he refunds me my money. There I put my money where my mouth is. Any other takers? If they're custom serialed I'm all in, as of right this instant minute. Now there's TWO.

LaCon - If you think that your efforts will motivate Coonan Inc. to do the receivers, then great. I am not trying to denigrate your efforts in any way. It sure can't hurt.
But I think it is misguided. Both Pat (RIP) and myself have sent Dave prints. I've discussed with Dan and Dave the tweaks that have to made to use a metric casting in an inch mag well (an inch spec mag well will break through the front of their metric casting). Dan knows his stuff. Sometimes people do what pleases them. I think he is happy directing his efforts on the .357 1911. I suspect he's bored with FALs. So my point is, he's going to do them when and if it pleases him, and no amount of feedback from here is going to affect his decision. I hope he does the UK cut. From a financial perspective, I think the market is more tuned toward militarily significant (even if cosmetically custom) over that which is more, IMO, a toy (the .357 project). But the bottom line is, if Dan simply enjoys the 1911 more, we ain't going to be seeing any UK L1A1s until he tires of it. I don't think it has ever been about money - it's a passion - so submitting that the FAL may be more profitable at this moment in time (the 1911 isn't an "evil assault rifle" nor a "hi-cap" magazine) may be irrelevant. I have a financial interest in him cranking out FAL receivers. My customers want something other than DSA to send me.

The delay is primarily machine time and material, we keep selling out! Looking forward to adding a Brit to the FAL stable. When it happens I will need to trade for a kit or two. More on that when the prototype is done. FYI no problem on inch cut mag well. |

I just asked Coonan on their Facebook page when we could expect these. After checking we the shop, Here is their reply copied and pasted from the FB page.
"hoping for a prototype in about 8-12 weeks." I was really hoping for sooner.

It looks like I'll be needing an inch-pattern receiver too, dangit-- I told myself I was done with the Commonwealth FALs-- but doubt if I'll be ready when he is, if a prototype really is ready in 12 weeks. But I'm out there, orbiting on the perimeter . . .

One of its primary functions is to regiment men by force, to make them as much alike as possible and as dependent upon one another as possible, to search out and combat originality among them. All it can see in an original idea is potential change, and hence an invasion of its prerogatives. The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Strike my previous post, definitely in for one. I would have liked a Canadian, or even Australian, but at this point I'll take whatever inch-pattern receiver I can find. And your pistol is a serious kick in the slats, Mr. Coonan!

I woukd also like to get 1. I have been collecting parts and have a 7mm Kreiger barrel I had made a couple of yeays ago. I think 7mm-300 savage Acklet improved would be interesting in a FAL. I also think the foulding cocking handle is an assett.

I may be stepping out on a limb, BUT if you guys have seen the CORRECT cuts that Coonan is making on the R1 receivers, I am CERTAIN you will be EXTREMELY happy and satisfied with what you will see with the British receivers they have in the works!!! LaC

And my priorities are changing again-- does anyone know if Coonan is making an Australian-pattern inch receiver?? If not, with DSA not shipping, that would leave Entreprise as the only other source . . .

I hope to have a receiver in time to help celebrate Obumbler's departure.
Built an AR in prep for his incoming in '07, only fitting to build a MAJOR battle rifle for his outgoing! ![]() Still in for one. If LaC says they're pretty, good enough for me. He's more persnickety than I.

Well Frack! Oh well, I'm planning on using mine to replace the Century "Minch" receiver My SLR is currently making do with so it's not so bad. If I was staring at a kit begging to be brought back to life the wait would be a lot worse. It'll sure make that rifle purty when it gets here though.

My first ever FAL was a Century build from a Primo Aussie kit on an Imbel metric. That one is staying the way it is just for sentimental reasons. However, It is going over to Jayson at IGF this coming Monday for his primo black finish.
