Tampa City Council Looks to Ban Concealed Weapons for RNC

TAMPA, Fla. — The Tampa City Council is asking Gov. Rick Scott to help them ban concealed weapons outside the Republican National Convention.

The council voted Thursday to make the request.

The Florida Legislature passed a law last year preventing cities and counties from passing local gun regulations. Tampa officials want Scott to use his executive power to suspend that law during the convention which runs August 27-30.

In a same-day response to Buckhorn’s letter Tuesday, Scott, a Republican, said banning guns in the downtown area would infringe upon citizens' constitutionally protected rights to legally arm themselves.

As a young man I moved from Fl to escape NY. When I was in the South Florida Real Estate business we had MANY New Yorkers move to Palm Beach county. All they ever did was complain about how restrictive NY was and the high taxes. Within 6 months they wanted to convert SFl into NY. SFl became so much like NY I moved to TX. I can see the same rumblings starting to happen here.

Mayor Bobby Buckhorn never saw gun control he didn't like.He's a sissyboy lawyer puppet mayor put in the seat by the descendants of mob lawyers and friends.He says Tampa will evacuate pending a hurricane.Good Luck with that Bob.He will never see a second term after the public finds out what deals he made with the Police and firefighters union to get elected.
This was the mayors idea,council just playing ball for now knowing the governor would strike it down

I hear you man. I was in south broward for 32 years of my life and still miss it sometimes. I moved to central Fl in 2005 and still go back from time to time to visit family. Im usually ready to come back home after a week or so.
