Yeah, but I also should to point out that there also seems to be many more Police deaths, too, than in the past. Or, such as the topic is, it seems anyway. I can say that I have heard of a lot more Police deaths in recent years. This surely weighs in on ones thinking as they go into a situation. Sad all the way around.

Hey, what are you doing up anyway?!! I thought old guys slept in until noon.....or at least until they need to go to the bathroom!!

Shee-it. You oughta know better. Sleepin' in for an old guy is 5:30 AM. And I don't even bother gettin' up any more if I gotta pee.

This, as you may imagine, does not garner much respect from the older crowd who grew up with the notion that the man with the badge would put his life on the line for you.

I hope that puts it in a nutshell.
Have to say I agree with you me old mate. Even now I am an officer, it grates on me to hear "the most important thing is you go home at the end of the watch." Maybe I am also old fashioned but I look at police work as a public service and that carries an implication of putting oneself before others, rather than above others, especially law abiding citizens.

Don't get me wrong, I love my family, my life and even some of my fellow man so I want to continue living for as long as possible. However, I do not need to be arrogant, subservient, obnoxious, badge heavy or make excuses to do my job. I do need to be able to be a chameleon and become who I need to be in order to best serve my community when speaking or interacting with them. Some folks need me to be stern; others need an empathetic approach; yet others need me to be a "just the facts, ma'am" kinda cop. Reading people and tailoring your response to them is the most difficult part of this job for younger folks. When your only tool is a hammer, every problem tends to look like a nail. If being aggressive and exercising an over bearing "command presence" is the only way you know how to talk to people, they will likely get pissed off right quick. Some of it comes from inexperience and a good part from a lack of self confidence. (or over confidence for that matter)

I'm pretty darn comfortable with who I am, what I stand for and the way I live my life. Some young folks are still trying to find themselves and some never do and end up leaving LE work. Life experience is a MUST IMHO for potential police officers and having an effective, open and progressive leadership team is incredibly important. I could ramble for hours on this so I'll spare you the lecture... Goodwill to all here.

Here's APD doing some productive work:

I mean, I kinda laugh at the fat wench approaching the one cop from behind, but the second cop pointing a firearm with one hand and some pepper spray with the other is equally as ridiculous.

And then all the gawkers going "wooah" "woaaaaaaaaaah" "wooooooooaah"

My reaction to the whole thing.

can you say emphatic response when he uses the pepper spray and squeezes the trigger at the same time. Moron.

As far as the other chick getting tossed aside well with just a partial video who knows who she is or how many times she was told to stay back. Looks like the stop had been going on for a while because of the crowd. And who the hell just saunters up to some one being arrested and touches them?

Never arrest the friend of a drunk fat chick. Nothing good can come of it.

There was more vids after that one..Particularly Austin...

HOW the hell can anyone take a cop in shorts'n'track shoes and a wienie beanie (bicycle helmet) seriously??
I mean... really?!?!?! Put yer gabardines or twill trousers on with a pair of Shaw police shoes and walk the fuggin' beat, fer crissake!

AFA the "fat chick" getting tossed?? Tough cookies, hun. How fuggin' stoopid ya gotta be to do that during a felony stop (assumed as such due to arms out and pointed...plain as day!). Betcher ass she don't come up on a cop again like that! Darwin's Rulz!
