looking for knowledgable guys on deringer rifles...
specifically the 1842/1817 rifles. i was offered a trade that perks my interest but i know nothing about this stuff. the rifle, i/e not a smooth bore, has a date code on it of 1842, is marked deringer PHILA on the side plate, has several U.S. stamps, a "circle" P stamp, two cursive proofs that could be JK and JaK, pic's will tell you a little more...
i am wondering if this is anything more than a neat wall hanger, and its value in general. http://s181.photobucket.com/albums/x...case/deringer/

At first glance, it looks good/complete conversion to percussion.
![]() IIRC, this is the original design http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Model_1814_Common_Rifle Check this http://www.cowanauctions.com/auction...x?ItemId=91655 A better source of information would be found at the North South Skirmish Association forums http://www.n-ssa.org/vbforum/forum.php
