G1 muzzle break

I have a G1 rifle that has the lug on the barrel for the original flash hider and I am looking for a muzzle break that can be silver soldered as the barrel is does not threaded. I could then grind the lug off. Anyone know of one?

why don't you swap the G1 barrel for a stg, or other makes that have thrds already. no need to alter [destroy] a good G1.

I face a similar predicament with a "G1-like" barrel on my Argy. Nothing fits but the bayo that creates a 3-prong FH once attached.

Can a FALsmith swap barrels for a FH-threaded barrel without damage to either barrels and recvr?

Yes, swapping barrels would be the preferred method, especially for hard to find barrels such as these.

G1 muzzle brake

Since the build is already headspaced and the barrel is installed I suppose I could just do without a muzzle brake. I hate to take the barrel off.

If you have a barrel that is "Lugged" for the love of god please do not "grind" it off.. There are people here that would do anything to trade you for a regular barrel.

WAIT!!! You have a G1 barrel with lug attached.....correct?

You are wanting to put on a Muzzle Device...correct?

You are aware that there ARE G1 muzzle devices made for that barrel?

Get you a G1 Muzzle Device, install it and forget it!

OR like others stated, I am sure there are MANY here that would swap you a number of different barrels, bi-pod or NON bipod cut barrels for your G1 barrel!!!

PLEASE do NOT neuter your G1 in ANY WAY!.......

Gi muzzle break

I have decided to leave it in its original condition. After doing a lot of reading here and on the web the last several days its not worth it to change it. Thanks for all the replies to my question.

here - this clicks on in place of the flash hider - no modification necessary.

Yeah, have thought about switching out my G1 barrel too. I was thinking of somthing shorter.

I just have this feeling that the MD is affecting accuracy.(or is it effecting?)

I guess I need to do some testing.

I already have one of those long flash hiders that came with the kit it has a lug on it. It is a very loose fit and I would not fire the rifle with it like it is. I read on here that Moses can sleeve them & he might be able to tighten it up I suppose.

Does the original have to sleeved and soldered on to be legal or just soldered?

As you are in Texas and not NYC, why don't you do what I do with my G1s in Pennsylvania - just use the flash hider G-d intended them to work with. You may need a new one or just perhaps a new spring clip. Twist on, Twist off. Depress the spring clip (if it has one - not alll of them do) while you turn.

You can get a new or newish flash hider for perhaps $20. Cheap and looks nice. If in good shape there is no way it is comming off without you wanting it to.

I do not use the G1 flash hider as it WILL change the point of impact. I have even used a brand new G1FH with the same effect. I shoot the gun without a FH and I am quite happy with it.

Yeah, unless you are involved in active night ops and have a need to roll around in the bushes at night without being spotted the flash hider is just for looks. I wouldn't bother with it and just shoot without it.

Shoot your rifle with and without your flash hider. See what way gives you better groups. I'm betting that it will maintain tighter groups with the flash hider due to the dampening effect on barrel harmonics. Your case may vary. (21 inch FAL barrels are very thin in respect to their length and most whip vertically when fired.) If you still want to try something else I'll trade you a very nice STG barrel with a screw on flash hider.

I think DS Arms use to make a screw on G1 type F/H. Because I live in the PRK. I bought the "fake" version, left hand thread. You might be able to find one of the "real" cut ones.

ADDED LATER

Disregard, thought you had a threaded barrel and wanted a G1 F/H. Put a real G1 F/H and forget about it. Im looking for a real nice one myself, I saw a real good one on GB, with the bayo lug on the F/H and looks refinished. Some guy in Surprise AZ is selling .......

An option with a M2 lugged barrel or even a G1 barrel is to cut the rear locking section off a G1 flash hider and solder it on.

Besides changing the poi, the detachable fh WILL batter the muzzle crown and ultimately affect the accuracy of the rifle even when it is removed.

It is a "make-do" idea presumably from the same fertile imaginations that brought us the removeable bipod and metal hgs - in other words, an artificial solution to a non existant problem.
