Middle TN Group
Hey, is there any interest in some sort of Middle TN gathering? It could be a range day, meet-and-greet, whatever...I think it would be cool to talk shooting face to face with actual humans like I did before the internet
.I'm in Middle TN and am willing to travel within an hour or so of Nashville to make this happen. |

That sounds like a good idea. I am thirty miles west of Nashville. I will have some free time when school is out this summer. I need an excuse to shoot the big guns. Mostly been shooting 22s due to cost of ammo.

Thanks for replying JT59, I too am eagerly awaiting Summer. Is the Cheatham Co. range within reasonable driving distance for you? |

I'm in Baxter (about an hour east of Nashville), and my normal range is in Fairfield Glade (almost two hours east of Nashville). I shoot Highpower and Long Range matches at Oak Ridge, Chattanooga, and AEDC, but the FAL doesn't go with me to those any more
![]() Any Mid-TN folk are plenty close to shoot the GA FAL match every May in Dawsonville, GA though. I go almost every year and it's well worth the drive. http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showt...hreadid=302607

Absolutely! How's that old girl doing? I can't believe it's been 6 years -
The range is called the Fairfield Glade Sportsmans Club (www.ffgsc.com I think). It really caters to fancy shotgunners, but they've got a 250yd rifle range way back in the woods if you know where to look. Don't tell anybody though - I've enjoyed having the place to myself every time I've been ;-)

Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it) I gave in to peer pressure and got a nice Hollinger AR for Highpower, and a Remington 700 for Long Range. Shooting those feels like cheating compared to the FAL, but I still use the old girl for 3-gun and the like. The others may be more accurate, but they just don't have the character the FAL does!

Hey Dave (or anybody else):
Anyone know of a reputable builder in the Middle TN area? Or is anyone willing to try to get a build party together maybe this Fall? I'm about 20 miles north of Nashville, with an Imbel kit, a receiver from Pat's group buy, a few spares but no experience in assembly. Thanks, BB |

I'm no gunsmith/FFL so I can't do it for you, but I'd be happy to help you put it together if you make the trek to Baxter, TN. I've got all the tools for barreling and headspacing. I've built about ten so far -

I don't know a FAL builder in the area but I have a good friend who makes a living as a gunsmith. Further, I'd be interested in throwing together a rifle this fall too if a build party happens. I have meant to build another for a while anyway-this might force me to make it a priority.
If your serious about doing this, let me know. I'm currently under about 3 major projects and need to start switching gears/diverting cash to get the FAL build underway. Edit: When I say "build another", I mean I want another FAL-not I have significant experience building them. I have every confidence that I can do it, though. |

Kotengu and DaveW, thanks for the replies.
I believe I have a builder lined up for my Imbel/Imbel within a couple of weeks, but I am still very interested in a get-together with some FAL folks in TN sometime in the fall. Could we get together at a range? And where is the best suitable range close to Nashville? Thanks guys, BB |

Haven't checked in here in awhile...I'm up for getting together sometime. I"m just south of Nashville if anyone needs any help putting a rifle together. I'm also have done some parkerizing, just need to get everything out of storage and set back up to do it.

There's a 3-gun match in Gallatin in October. I'd love not to be the only FALer there! Details are in the competition forum.

Ahhh - it's your WIFE's family, not yours. Your FAL has a reunion calling too!
Just kidding - have fun and take care of family first. There will be another match.

I live in East Tennessee but I have friends I could crash with just outside of Nashville and others just outside of Memphis. I realize I'm resurrecting a thread, but if there are going to be
activities in Tennessee in the future, I'd like the chance to participate. And if anyone knows of a 100-200 yard/meter range that's extra cheap or free as well as local, please let me know. I still don't know how my FALs shoot at that distance and I'd much rather spend money on ammo than gas or range fees.

Hey guys. Kinda new here. I bought an argy kit and my Coonan receiver should be here by the end of Nov.
I plan on buying the tools(receiver wrench and barrel vise) when money comes available but I know this kit will be burning at me to build once the receiver comes in. Is there anyone in the middle TN area that would be interested in helping me build this thing that has the tools or maybe can lend them to me? I built my AR, except barreling the upper receiver, so I have some experience. Plus my other expensive hobby is a complete restore of a 67 Camaro. So I have patience too. |

I'm in Murfreesboro. I usually shoot at Owl Hollow or Woodbury.
In seven years I've never seen any other FAL's at the range but my own.

I'm in Goodlettsville. I would love to have access to a 200 yrd range to sight in a couple of my rifles. I have an AR and a 700 I need to sight in and will need to sight my FAL in when I get it together.
I have everything but a barrel vise now to start putting my Argy together. Hopefully I will have the cash to get the vise, a locking shoulder, flash suppressor, a couple of mags and some ammo after Christmas. |

Redec, i think the argy flash hider is the same as the Belgian/imbel combo device, I have several if you want one. They aren't new, but should be able to be cleaned up, would need to be refinished. I could throw one in and parkerize it the next time I'm doing some, which should be soon. Free of charge if you want it.

No problem, I have a box full of spares. I've got a buddy bugging me to parkerize some m1a mags for him, so whenever I do those I'll pick out the best one and throw it in with them.

Anyone local have decent mags for sell. I wouldn't mind stg metric mags or any known type in good shape. My guitar is going to sell on ebay so I can finally finish my Argy.

Sure - $20ea for used surplus 20rd mags in good condition. Some may be STG - I'll have to look. I also have a couple new in wrap Belgian mags for $30 and an aluminum para mag or two for $30.
If you have any interest let me know and I can send some pics and firm up my inventory details (going off the top of my head). I'll meet you halfway some evening or weekend - Matt

The date has been set for the 2013 GA FAL Match - March 30th. Details will be posted here as we get closer: http://www.falfiles.com/forums/showt...=1#post3500456
I'd strongly encourage ANY of you to come down and join me there! Dawsonville, GA is not a very far drive, and this is the largest FAL gathering in the South. There is something there for everyone - from someone who has never shot a match there before, to someone who really wants a challenge. Most people come just to hang out, talk to fellow FALers, and see more variants of the FAL in one place than they ever would anywhere else. It's also a great place to learn how to use your FAL better, as there are several very talented folks that attend. I spend a lot of time watching and learning from those better than I, and have always found everyone to be friendly and eager to help anyone willing to learn.

Any of you guys shoot up at Manchester - MTSC - we lease the pistol bay side for IDPA/USPSA and the range owner keeps the rifle side - I think they have targets out to 500 - Barrett shoots there from time to time. I do not think I have ever seen another FAL there.
