Looks like a good start to a FAL. Butt stock looks like it will clean up pretty good. Get you a buttstock and pistol grip tool. You will eventually need a tool for the front site as well. As much as I hate to recommend them, DSA sells a combo kit that contains all these tools plus an extractor tool along with a gas wrench for 60.00. All of the tools are worth it. You will end up spending at least 600-700 on the rifle- buy the right tools to work on it.
http://www.dsarms.com/FAL-Tool-Kit-P...oductinfo/649/ Good luck and let us know how it progresses. |

Welcome. You should have no trouble finding a barrel. You have your work cut out to refinish that but is very satisfing and fun, then you get to go shoot it.
![]() I am working on an izzy clone and plosted just before the shut down for some parts I am after, sure never thought it would last this long.

it dose look like its had a hard life but im starting on the refinishing so its not a big deal. so i know there are alot of questions about the 922r stuff but what ive figured so far is if i go with the coonan reciver a coonan gas piston, enterprise muzzle brake falcon arms HTS kit thats 6 parts correct, then i would only need one more i was looking at falcon has a us made front handguard that is the plastic style. would that work on my g1 kit. my other question is apex has a south african barrel for 75 is that compatable with my gas block and gas tube? i cant seam to find any g1 parts the barrels were all cut in half for some reson from what i see??

Don't get one of those south african barrels. It's probably worn-out and pitted. Find an STG or Argentine barrel here in the MP and you'll be much happier with the results.

Nice G1 kit! Looks like APEX still has a few decent, buildable units left. Regarding a barrel, since you're wanting to use a threaded muzzle device, a bipod-cut StG barrel would be your best bet. They are pretty much universally regarded as the most accurate metric FAL barrels out there, are usually in much better condition than the South African barrels you mentioned. StG barrels can routinely be found here in the MP and on GB for $125-$175 range. Regarding a receiver, Coonan is a great choice but you might consider getting a Type 1, which would be the correct type for your lower. Coonan makes a model specifically for the G1 and you can order it with serial number matching your kit if desired.
Oh, sorry to hear about the buttstock; that looked like a pretty nice one. Good luck and post up photos of your progress! HR

The SA barrel from APEX doesn't have the bipod cut, so if you want a bipod look elsewhere. If this is your shooter you may want to eliminate the carry handle also, so before you order your receiver figure out if you want the carry handle cutout on it. There is still a sale at DSA for a type 1 or type 2, carry handle cut out for 310 I believe. We'll probably never see that again!
If weight is a concern I have a black polymer buttstock sanded and ready for paint. I will trade for your painted wooden model. PM me and we can come to a fair deal. Thanks and have fun, Roadmarker |

Just ask a local FFL you want to use them for a transfer. For $30.00 or less you should be able to find someone. Order direct from DSA and you can fax in a copy of the FFL, they will verify it there. I'm sure Coonan will do the same.
About that buttstock....? |

You get an original type B stock while everyone else is getting mangled Turkish stocks and you go and spray paint it black?
The FAL gods are very disappointed.

Not to worry about that B stock, it is getting some loving care. A little bit more steaming out of dents, oil removal and a crack repair and then a nice finish. It should be back to pristine condition. It just takes patience and repeated attention.

Man am I glad I found this post. I'm starting my own newbie FAL build this week with an APEX parts kit. What is the difference between a type 1 and type 3 receiver? Is there a major difference in performance? I'm turning my FAL into a PSG-1 variant.

If he wants a PSG-1 as in a G3 then he's using the wrong rifle to start with..

The PSG-1 was a sniper rifle created by H&K way back when.
![]() Not sure when exactly, but a lot of people began converting the very versatile FAL into a similar beast by attaching an adjustable precision stock and an ergo pistol grip with a palm shelf. There was a guy on here that sold one of these beauties a couple years ago. Last edited by ronin278; March 04, 2012 at 19:05. Reason: The thing does look like a G3. Guess I'm used to seeing the G1 version. whoops |

Better idea of what I'm trying to accomplish. Guess you can't really call it a PSG-1 clone anymore aside from the stock and pistol grip.
